What Exactly Does "Clone Only" Mean?

I'm currently researching OG Kush as a possible grow and came across several statements that it (along with other hard to come by strains) is only available via clone.

It's my understanding that if I stress a plant enough it will show both sexes and pollinate itself (giving new meaning to the term "go fuck yourself') or may go completely male at which time I would combine it with a female clone that was not streassed. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but all seeds that are then produced under this type of scenario would be feminised?

How can a plant be available as "clone only because seeds are not available?"

Seeds are not available for the masses or seeds are not available period?

Did DNA take the female clone and match it with a pure male that we do not know about or maybe they stressed a female clone to turn it male. [?]

Another site said they combined an OG Kush clone with a male Larry Kush to produce a plant that produces seeds. If that was the case then would it still be considered original OG Kush? But then again there isn't and original OG Kush plant because it was strictly a clone from the start, is that correct?

I realize at the end of the day it probably won't matter too much if a female clone was banged by a male Afgan; but I'm kind of a perfectionist and like things as close to exact as I can get them.

Clone only? That's the only way you can get the strain. No seeds are available.

In simple terms, there probably was a mom bred from two strains and that plant got named something.

The only way to get it is by taking cuttings off the mom. These cuttings are called clones.

And if I stress that clone enough is it possible that clone will show both sexes and pollinate itself thus producing seeds or possibly go full male at which time you would add another clone and generate seeds.

i would get the strain that you desire, whatever it may be. get your hands on the strain, whether by seed or by clone(female plant). vegitate the plant to decent size, then take a cutting from the plant. continue then to stress the mother out enough to make her hermie. the mother can then be allowed to pollinate the clone. thus, you now have feminized seeds of your particular strain.... never actually done this, but it should work in theory right?

I personally have never done it.

But the theory is sound. If you stress a female at the right time in its life then it will try to preserve its genetics so it grows a few pollen sacs and bobs your uncle, SEEDS.

Also you can try to convert a hermie to female through dark cycles or something.

there are several reasons a strain may be clone only. there may only be a single female in existance( i have a couple of these clone onlys of my own), sometimes its a new strain and there arent enough seeds to spread the love(hijack was a clone-only strain for awhile for this reason), and sometimes its just plain old greed by the originator of a strain.


your best bet for making fem seeds is to let a female get overripe and produce some bannanas then pollenate and entirely different female. stressed hermies have a high probability of producing hermie seeds. actually ALL fem seeds have a probability of producing hermies so whatch your ass.

i am certainly not saying that there are no techniques i havent heard of, but i have NEVER heard of this one.

If it is clone only then making fem seeds still wont be the same thing. They will be close but not the exact mother that the clone came off of, thats why there are still clone only strains with all the feminizing going on. I agree with slik that letting them overrippen is the best way to fem them.

yeah, i forgot to mention that the fem seeds MIGHT closely resemble the self-pollenated female but will most likely not. you know, genetics behaving the way they do an all.


i made some fem NL and some fem NLxNYC Diesel by overrippening. ill probably start a thread when i get around to growing them.

Yes, you have this wrong. You will not "stress" a plant to change its sex or go "hermie." Genetics dictate the sex of the seed. Don't stress them, be gvood to them and grow them strong, seperate your boys and girls and have fun, all the info is here on rollitup just look around.
