What happened to optic lighting?

So you got your hands on one?
I have a question. When do you put the lenses on? Last time i put them in when i was in full blown flowering and i wanted more penetration of light to get to the lower buds
This was a big topic for me, but for everyone I talked to it was a no-brainer, they unanimously said leave the lenses on all the time (including the manufacturer, when I asked them). In the end, in one situation I took them off and things improved dramatically -- I had a 4x2 scrog with just two 120's attempting to cover it, and with the lenses on it could not cover the width. When I took them off and lowered the lights a bit, it was perfect -- and in that situation penetration was not as important as the spread of the footprint.

I have another situation now where a plant has grown taller than I had hoped and I've run out of vertical space. It's in its last few weeks of flower, and I don't know this strain well enough to know if the changes happening are normal for this plant (some will turn pale at the end of their lives even in perfect nute/light balance), or what might be the impact of growing too close to the lights. So I'll split the difference, and about two weeks before its time to cut it I'll take the lenses off. If I'm burning it, that may give it some relief. If it was doing fine, its possible that the cut in light intensity might mimic the weakening of fall sunlight, and it might even encourage a clean finish (I really have no idea).

I never take the lenses off
Most of the last generation 5w had lenses. Some had reflectors, but most of the best eventually went with lenses like Apache, Area 51 or even Advanced. I did not expect the optic 120 to be as dramatically more powerful with goggles but it is. Lenses on cobs will help solve the coverage shortcomings of LEDs.

So my one cob finally burned completely out. When i send it out and get it back I'll let you guys know how the exchange went. I bought a 125watt 2700k cfl to put in while i wait for them to send it back.

Can you estimate how many hours they worked for before they burned out?
(or weeks or months at 18/6 or 12/12?)

I've only been growing autos so they stsy on 20/4. The first time it happened it was like 4 or 5 weeks into my grow. This time it was the same thing. I thought these guys were the shit what happened? Lol. But seriously what happened? Has anyone else had this issue? I understand nothing is perfect but its got my thinking I'm doing something wrong. If i was anyone else have i would have gone on a huge bitchy rant but these people were cool with me. I had originally ordered a 200 watt cxa and they gave me the cxb version. And when i send the one module back the first time they told me the gave me an upgraded version. Now that could be totally bullshit cause idk how to tell the difference. Visual all i can see different is a white plastic exterior surrounding the cob. If you guys want i can take a pic of it.

Voltage? That would be different in the chipsets assuming same current output...Have a multimeter?

The Optic website still seems to be down. I could have sworn a few fan boys said it was just going to be temporary. Temporary forever or whaaaaaat?

Was just speaking with them..They told me by next year it should be up.In the meanwhile they are taking orders on Amazon and scaled back their model line. No longer offer the 500w Vero 29 I just bought. Makes little to no sense to me...but whatever. I wanted another 500w or two, and told them that when I ordered the first one... Guess I will be reading more DIY threads lol.

Since this has sort of become a general Optic's thread...

Anyone know why they put filters at the exhaust part of the fan? I can understand filtering incoming air to keep dust and crap out of the unit, but why would they filter air as its leaving the light? This is my second grow running mine, and I just popped them off figuring all they're doing is restricting air flow.

I'd really like to remove the lids altogether, but first I have to move the hanging points from my older one from the lid to the sides (like the newer ones). Has anyone tried removing the lid? How hard is it to tap the long hinge pin out? I suppose the cases are "cool" looking, but since they run the COBs pretty hot, I imagine they'll live longer if they can breath better...

i removed my lid.. was pretty easy to do since the case hinge was broken when I received the unit... which they fixed.just glad it didn't happen now.. at a time they have no website, no telephone, and no email address. it's pretty f*cked up if u ask me.
