What happens if you continue to let a plant grow in a container thats too small?

just wondering i got some bag seed growing in about 4 different containers

IE: small tuperwear bowl (which has 4 that sprouted last night) this is only about 2-3 inches deep but is like a 1 ft x 6 inch tray



a very small plant pot with a diameter of 6 inches but is only about 4-5 inches deep with soil 2with 2 good sprouts in it

and i got one healthy little sprout growing in a full sized pot

the other cup hasnt sprouted any yet

so back to my question, what happens if you never transplant to a larger container? does it just die? or does it

and any transplanting suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated like how long to wait before the transplant etc

The plant will become root bound, stunts it growth, and will most likely have health problems the longer its stays that way. 1 plant per container, 1 gallon of dirt per foot of growth makes a happy root system if taken care of right.

What will happen, depends on your skill level mostly.
You can grow a nice sized plant in a coffee cup.

I would love to see a 3ft tall plant in a coffe cup.
It would almost be like a side show attraction.


I have no doubt that It could be done.
I am sure the skill level would need to be pretty high though.

It would be an attribute to ones skills for sure.

naa not hard at all..just bonsai the root ball early and often and you'll be fine...

i find when my pot gets to small i have to water more often. sometimes twice a day. at this point it's time for a new pot. just to save myself some work if anything.

You might be able to...lol. I'm still working out the kinks in my first indoor grow. Videoman, thanks for all the advice you post on this site man. Everytime I'm looking for an answer I seem to find one of your post to help me out bro, thanks.

So would you say that if I'm still watering like every 3 days then the pots are probably adequate in size?

I'm concerned about the pots being too small because I've seen the root balls on my males when I got rid of them and they were dense -- as a noob I don't really know if that's normal or not. Also, my plants stretched quite a bit for the first 2 weeks of 12/12 and are now not growing vertically much at all.

Flowering looks to be going fairly well, so I think I'm OK. What do you think?
