maybe you can explain something to me (and the rest of us novices). What in the freaking world is the difference between MH and HPS. What I mean is what is it about them that makes MH good for growing and HPS good for flowering. Obviously the amount of light per day has a major effect but what does the nuts and bolts of those 2 actually do? Act like I'm 12 when you answer.

The difference is the spectrums. Which are the different colors
in the light. MH bulbs have more of a blue spectrum because in the
summer when marijuana grows wild, the sun gives off more blue light
thus a different spectrum.
HPS lites have a more red spectrum, which again,
when marijuana grows in the wild and when it begins to flower, towards
fall, the sun gives off more of a red spectrum lighting. Which is why MH is great for vegging, and HPS are great for flowering. Because they mimic the natural environmental spectrums that marijuana would use if it were growing out in the wild. Get it?

plants respond to different colors in the spectrum. The blue colors (MH light) are absorbed in veg growth, and red colors (hps) are used more durring flowering.

i think

lol no he/she is just to lazy to read the grow faq part of this website.. but the spectrum deal is correct...

blue light spec is needed for vegetation period and red is needed for flowering.. but both mh and hps have every color in the entire spectrum which is what light is... every color at once... anyway mh has more blue than hps has.... but in the end both have enough light and color spectrums to grow bomb ass weed mother fuckers!!!!!!!!!!!

thought mh allows for more uv light to get to the plants which makes for crystal. theres some arguements on here about it, always seemed to be that hps were for larger buds an more quantity, and mh was for "danker" more crystalyishy bud lol bc of the uv. just kinda adding what ive read so thought id try an help
