I just recently heard about K2, which is suppose to look like cannabis and have similar effects, but is completely legal. Does anyone know about this stuff? Is it safe? Is it natural? Anyone know what makes it work?

it looks nothing like weed. it does get you high, really high in fact. the buzz is all in your head though if you know what im saying. it is a bunch of herbs that get you high and im pretty sure they add some jwh-018 to get you extra high. jwh-018 activates your thc receptors in the brain.

So it's one of those weed alternatives they sell in smoke shops? I tried one once. It was called Ocean Breeze. The first time I smoked just a little and it had a metallic tinge to it, and just like Dimefan said it was all in the head. My frontal lobe tingled. It was a little pleasant and I could think clearly but the effects were obviously chemical. It seemed too localized and intense. I tried it again later that night and smoked a full bowl of it. That was a huge mistake. I got super paranoid and I was having weird side effects like twitching and my eyes couldn't really keep locked on one thing. Every once in a while they would "hit a reset button" and bounce back and forth super fast for a half second like a twitch. Freaked the hell out of me. I tried writing while it was happening and I could not spell as well as I normally do or write as neatly either. It also made me dislexic while on it. I was writing letters and numbers backwards or putting them in the wrong order. The best way to describe the feeling in my head is that my brain was chewing on tin foil. When I woke up the next day I had a hangover that ranks up there with any alcohol hang over I ever had. I kept feeling the effects of the hangover the second day after I smoked it. It was horrible. So I went and gave it to the guy behind the counter at the head shop I bought it from and told him to give it to whomever wants it (they sell a tone of that stuff). He was nice enough to give me a partial credit and I bought a new bowl.

If this is the same sort of stuff I recommend no one smoke it. It feels too chemically influenced to be safe and had way too strong of an effect to appear safe to me.

Sorry I can't really contribute, other than saying why the hell is this stuff legal and not marijuana... Seems like it's worse for you :wall:

Personally I think K2 sucks ass, you get a 30 minute head high thats it, and it taste like shit imo, I think it always better to just buy bud

It's legal because it's new and it hasn't been brought up for drug classification yet. Not really sure why though. Probably because it is considered a "safe" alternative to the dangerous cannabis plant. The head shop guy told me he had people coming from across state lines to buy that stuff. Especially since you get a f***ed up effect from it and doesn't show up on any drug tests. A lot of people just want to be in an altered state of mind and don't think about the consequences of their actions. It more expensive than cannabis though. I bought a gram for $30, and the only reason I did was because I moved to a new area and had no hook-up what so ever.

Hmm. well i've went into the local head shop here and asked for K2, he said "sorry man, we dont sell that here anymore." he proceeded to turn around and give me a 3 gram bag of this stuff called "Happy Shaman Herbs". He told me it was "The same thing". went home and smoked it, and i could not tell the difference between the herb high and the weed high. Felt exactly alike. i smoked one Bowl out of my bong and it got me higher than any dank i've had and lasted about 2-3 hours. You guys should check it out.

P.S. when you smoke this stuff its a bit harsh on the lungs so be careful.

I tried a couple hits but it was hard to tell if it did anything cause I had already been smoking mj all day..Our friend came over and tried it completly sober and he said it was just like mj exactly, it was like 40$ for 3 grams and taste nasty as hell your better off buying actual bud its actually cheaper usually but this does seem like something that would be good for a drug test or if you are really desperate I guees..I am pretty sure it only made me sick, I have problems with nasuea and it made it much worse and I couldnt get the crappy taste out of my mouth (I tried the blonde kind)..most definitly it has no medicinal value for nasuea or pain or likely anything, maybe digestive disorder if it gives you the munchies but I am not even sure it does that.

It definitly gets people high as hell and they say its just like mj, gives them the redeye and all.

The difference though is that the high is from a synthetic chemical that is added to the mix. I don't like taking anything synthetic. I just don't believe it is safe. You can smoke cannabis for 30 years and you won't have any highly debilitating side effects. You take prozac for that long and your brain is mush. I've seen it happen. This stuff hasn't been tested so they don't even know if there are any long term side effects. I can't remember the website's name but there is a website that you can put up your personal experiences with any drug. Then anyone can read them. I'm not the only one who had a bad experience from smoking too much of this stuff. I think it does something to the brain to make it misfire. It was very hard to control my body when I did too much. Others have talked about how they were worried they were going to die. Too much of this stuff is horrible and scary. They don't even know if it can become addictive or not, but to me it seems that most synthetic chemicals are addictive in some way.

This is an article off the NORML website. It has a bunch of quotes from the creator of the synthetic chemicals in these products. Basically he thinks you're an idiot of you smoke it.

CLEMSON - It's troubling but probably was inevitable, said Clemson University chemist John W. Huffman, who after a lifetime of scientific research is seeing marijuana-related compounds he developed as lab tools in a quest to improve health used for a potentially dangerous high.

Synthetic marijuana-related compounds he painstakingly developed over two decades to study their biological effects and ultimately develop medications to help AIDS, multiple sclerosis and chemotherapy patients, now are gaining popularity with recreational drug users as "fake" pot.

He is concerned because of the potential harm these compounds may cause.

"Evidently, some people have figured out how to make them and are putting them in products marketed as incense," said Huffman, 77, a nationally known researcher who has won the National Institutes of Health's Senior Scientist Award and whose work has been published in scientific journals.

Huffman said he first learned through e-mails from a German blogger and some European chemists that two of his compounds were being used in some "fake marijuana" products under names such as K2 and Spice.

"I figured once it got started in Germany it was going to spread. I'm concerned that it could hurt people," Huffman said. "I think this was something that was more or less inevitable. It bothers me that people are so stupid as to use this stuff."

The compounds, developed in research funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse almost continuously since 1984, aren't meant for human consumption, Huffman said. The effects on humans haven't been studied, and the compounds should not be used as recreational drugs and could be toxic, he said.

The products are legal and easily available over the counter and online. No proof of age is needed, and Huffman and health officials are concerned.

"This high-end blend is guaranteed to chill your mood," touts a product description on Amazon.com.

"It's an emerging substance of abuse," said Jill Michels, director of the Palmetto Poison Center at the University of South Carolina's College of Pharmacy. "Teens that are not even of legal driving or drinking age can get this substance."

Michels said the Palmetto Poison Center, which is South Carolina's poison control agency, has had no calls on the product yet. Curtis Reece, manager of prevention at the Phoenix Center in Greenville, said counselors are aware of national concern but haven't seen evidence of local use.

Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center has seen nothing unusual in this area, said spokeswoman Sandy Dees, though problems are beginning to crop up in emergency rooms elsewhere in the country.

Huffman and his research team have developed more than 450 synthetic cannabinoid compounds in order to help understand diseases and provide information for development of medications.

Cannabinoids include THC - the active ingredient in cannabis plants - but also other substances that interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain and other organs.

"These receptors don't exist so that people can smoke marijuana and get high. They play a role in regulating appetite, nausea, mood, pain and inflammation," Huffman said. "They may be involved in the development of conditions such as osteoporosis, liver disease and some kinds of cancer."

Huffman said he gets angry when he's blamed for the harmful effects of the compounds that he developed to further scientific study that ultimately could improve the quality of life for millions of people and not for recreational use. He holds users responsible for their own actions.

"If you go around paying $40 for a packet of leaves that contains who knows what and smoke it, you are not a very responsible person. This is akin to playing Russian roulette," Huffman said.

The herbs are simply "an inert ingredient to spray the stuff on to deliver the product," said Dr. Anthony Scalzo, professor and director of toxicology at St. Louis University and medical director of the Missouri Poison Center at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.

In recent months, Scalzo has seen more than 30 cases of young people, most between the ages of 14 and 21, coming into the emergency room with spiking heart rates and blood pressure after smoking K2.

Scalzo said he started noticing scattered cases late last year and by January was seeing enough cases to call it a trend.

Patients are agitated and very anxious, he said. Heart rates race to 125 to 140 beats a minute and blood pressures are as high as 160 over 110.

"This is serious blood pressure. These patients are stimulated, and it's not a pleasant stimulation that's why they are in the emergency room," Scalzo said.

Symptoms sometimes include hallucinations and tremors. One 15-year-old was about to jump out of a fifth-floor window because he was hallucinating and didn't realize what he was doing. Fortunately, said Scalzo, a friend stopped him.

One of Scalzo's concerns is that the symptoms don't fit the typical marijuana high that lowers the heart rate.

He's also concerned about the easy availability and has testified before Missouri lawmakers considering outlawing the product. Patients have told him they buy the products at convenience stores and head shops. One patient reported buying K2 at a bait and tackle shop, Scalzo said.

Bottom line, and this was from a guy that runs a smoke shop, K2 isn't worth it if you can smoke weed. However, if you're on probation or get tested it's a safe alternative.

Thanks for all the info...that stuff sounds bad and i won't be trying it.. im sure its bad for you and then if it turns out it hurts people they'll asociate it with marijuana smokers so we get the negitive spinn that weeds bad when its some weird chemicals their spraying on stuff to mimic marijuanas effects and people who cant get or wont smoke weed will use it because its legal and think its safe

After a really shitty day I had to mention something... I started smoking spice in order to legally get high (probably like everyone else) and at first I thought it was a miracle, but I was always very wary about it since I heard that it killed some people. Anyways, yesterday I was smoking it, when I realized that my heart was going insane. It felt like a minor heart attack - I didn't have any chest pain, per se, but I did feel a lot of pressure. My heart was thumping out of my chest, way too fast and hard then it should have been. I tried to hydrate myself really good, but I was so high I just stood at the sink filling a cup and dumping it out over and over again. I was so high, in fact, that I felt all I could do was call a friend, lay down, and hope I didn't die. Obviously I'm still alive, but I feel like I could have easily died yesterday. All I remember was that it felt like I was going to die, I was trembling, and my feet were sweating, aside from the obvious discomfort in my chest cavity, that is... In other words, DON'T SMOKE IT!!!!

One other thing... Would it be possible in a circumstance like this to smoke some weed real fast? Doesn't that slow your heart rate?
