Its an Indica that came down from the Kush regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan
best answer in this thread....... kush is indica that grows at high elevations and can withstand cold climates within a certain mountain range including afghanistan/ pakistan... and the indian himalyas... the higher in the mountains you go were cannabis grows has a landrace the more indica the plants get

well, it really depends if the op is talking about say afghani kush, or say another kush like og kush or one of it's many relatives..
if they are indeed talking about afganhi, than this answer is by and far the best in the thread, but if they're talking about say og kush, then it's a hydrid strain that is a mixture of sativa and indica genetics.. :)

Theres not a shit pile left, but theres still a few landraces left. Most were sativas and got left behind in the faster flowering Indicas dust
You can still get pure Afghani strains as well as Pakistani ...anywere the the western world hasnt taken over will have pure strains. The hash they make in Morooco and Afghanistan is the same as it was hundreds of years ago....asides from cross polinations from other regions, its still pure

Technically the term "Kush" refers to the Hindu Kush, which is a mountain range separating what is now modern Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Without going too much into the history of that range, which is extensive and goes back literally thousands of years, the term "Hindu Kush" literally means "Hindu killer" as crossing the harsh mountain range was responsible for the deaths of innumerable Hindu slaves being trafficked from the Asian subcontinent into the Islamic Middle East.

Relevant to this thread, the original Cannabis indica (ie from India) and C. afghanica strains were bred and grown in India and the Kush mountains to make hashish.

So technically a true "Kush" strain is a landrace/heirloom cannabis strain from either the Afghani/Pakistani mountains, or more southerly from India. There are at least a few of these true Afghani-type strains commercially available now, though they typically don't go by the name "Kush". One such strain is Sensi-seeds famous "hash plant." These true Kush plants are short, squat, fast flowering, resiny pure Indica strains, well suited to making hash.

Now, colloquially the term "Kush" is used to refer to any number of modern potent hybrid strains. While undoubtedly some of these probably do have *some* true Afghani genetics in there, pretty much none of them are true landrace strains, and they vary quite a bit in genetic origin.

With the glorification of "Kush" in rap music and other popular culture, its gotten to the point where the term "Kush" is sometime just used generically to refer to any really strong weed, in much the same way the term "chronic" was in the early 90s.
