If you're going to grow in any other medium other than soil, you need a *good* pH meter. I highly recommend the Hanna. I paid $160 for a tri-meter from Stealth Hydro that didn't work well at all and withing two weeks it broke. The Hanna was recommended by one of the mods here; I couldn't be happier.
