What is this gold colored garbage on my leaves?

I am having this stuff killing off a lot of plant leaf by leaf.
What on earth is is lacking or needing?

Hmmm.... Pics would help a lot
Does it start right in the middle of the leaf at the petiole (where the fingers meet in the middle of the leaf)? Does it look like pollen or dust?

I did some research last night and narrowed it down to lack of Nitrogen, going off of what Ed Rosenthal say's. Thank God It is not mites though...had that problem once. What a pain!
