Sorry for the bad pics, I saw it, I smashed it then20230425_201339.jpg20230425_201320.jpg took pics of its corpse. The fucker was quick, about a half inch long and jumped out of some trim I was dumping into a bag. It moved like some sort of larva, but I have no idea what the hell this is. Never seen any signs of pests, webbing or anything weird up untill this..

I donno, didn't look like any type of roach I've ever seen. Looked more like some kind of caterpillar larva, moved like an inch worm. It had these weird little barbles on it. If I had to guess I'd say some kind of larva of something much bigger or some kind of soil burrowing grub. It was in some trim that was drying but I have no idea..

I just Google thrype and it sure looks like one. But this thing was a half inch long. Do thrypes get that big?

What you smashed looks like it's about to turn dark and go into pupa stage. The thrip in the above picture looks translucent.

Mabey it was a baby cricket. They don't always have to hop to be a cricket.

True. Man I don't know what the hell this is, never seen anything like it

It's a thrip, a big ass one. By the looks he was at the upper limits of how big they can get (roughly up to 1/2 inch). Most are about a third that size.

You're passing along bad information. That's not what this site is for.

OP - I don't know what that thing is. It's not a thrip.
Thanks man. I have no idea, never seen anything like it. Haven't seen any signs of pests either, and have no idea how this thing got in there, whatever the fuck it is

It was actually a bit longer, when I smashed it I only got its ass, but glad I didn't splatter the whole thing so was able to get a pic of what's left.

I'm ready to torch everything and start over, have no idea how this fucker got in tho
Mother Nature always finds a way, but don't torch your hard work. Shit happens.
What I be focused on is daily inspections of any plants and monitoring for visual symptoms of thrip damage.

Do you grow organically?

Perhaps I'm wrong. I've had thrips a couple of times. The things are almost impossible to see.

Maybe it's radioactive. Hey OP, you get bit by the thing? Any super powers?

Also, not sure, but I think the pic you posted are larvae, which would be even smaller.
It might not be.. but jes sayin there's many species of thrips, and some can get that big.
