What is wrong with this plant?

This is my first semi-legitimate grow. Actually invested some money now and almost have my flower room ready to move these guys into. Right now they are under an MH (cant remmeber the wattage b/c I bought it years back and just restarted and don't recall - on that note if u got any easy way to determining this I'd appreciate it), in a closet. I am gonna switch it to a nice set up under a bigger hood w/ HPS soon so hopefully that'll help their condition... This looks like maybe nutrient related, or water related to me.. But I'm still learning and not sure:

just looks like residue from your waterings. do you foliar spray with anything?

mineral salts from your water.

when growing indoors keep the water off the leafs or youll be swimming in mould.

for that much shit to crust out of your water, your water must be hard as fuck, or youre using a water sofetner.

if you have a water softener youll be having problems with excessive salt buildup.
if you just have excessively hard water thats not a big deal. plants like calcium and magnesium. it will clog up any sprayers and pumps you might be using though.

if youre not sure, find out. salt from a water softener can kill your plants.

It's hard water I'm pretty sure. I am gonna start buying purified water and mix it in with my hard water, or do hard one day and then use soft the next.. I don't have enough loot to buy a softener yet, plus I rent. Also, yes, I have misted the leave occasionally with a spray bottle... Not sure how helpful that is but I figured it might do something good lol. Thanks

Get r/o water if ya can, most supermarkets have machines that sell it.
You can also pick up a home r/o filter for under $200, it is a worth wile investment that will last a long time.

do NOT use a water softener.

those infernal machines "soften' the water by dissolving SALT into the water to drive calcium magnesium manganese and whatnot out.

water softeners vastly increase your personal salt consumption, make everything you drink taste funky and will KILL your plants.

water softeners are why the water in big office buildings always tastes funny. its SALT. not enough to make shit taste salty, but enough to build up in your soil and kill your plants.

and if you got kidney problems or high blood pressure it can spike your shit in a most unpleasant way.

if you want to worry about the mineral spots on your dishes and leaves, get a reverse osmosis system.

Just use a damp sponge and wipe it off before it feks things up. Then stop misting them, you also might want to get some better air movement. Looks like those leaves were sitting pretty still for those spots to dry like that. Good luck

Thanks, I will get a fan on them again. They are in the closet right now with very little air flow. Once I'm done building the flowering box they will be 100x happier. HPS, co2, proper ventilation, humidifier if necessary,etc. Hopefully I can finish it today

Dude - don't buy a softener. The doc already pointed out you will fight salt buildup with one. Use a Brita filter if nothing else. Or a Pur. Any tap-mounted filter has to help.
