Just use a big measuring cup. 1 liter is a good size. Each full cup would then be a 1/4 gallon. It makes it easy to measure how much your plants are drinking
how much do you water the plant anyways?
I use the plastic jugs cat litter comes in. They have wide mouths so they are easy to add nutes to. Also they have nice handles on them.
I believe it's tidy cat scoopable. There are two sizes,1.5 gal & the larger size about 2 gal. Maybe a little more. I put a mark on them with a permanent marker @ 1 gal,2 gal. etc. Hope this helps man.
Also the jugs are square.
you guys are funny. talking about kitty litter. don't spend money on kitty litter when you can just get a 5 gallon bucket for cheap at any hardware store. mix yourself a 5 gallon batch and save yourself time in the end. it's harder to accurately mix up a kitty litter scoop size of nutes 20 times than it is to mix a 5 gallon batch once.
Just so you know, milk jugs are great, but they aren't super durable. I've had several develop failure points where they dimple. Fortunately, for me, the first time it happened I was keeping them on a Rubbermaid lid, so I noticed the pool of water and no leak occurred. I still use them but have setup a cut down Rubbermaid which can hold a couple of gallons just in case.
I like them because I can haul a bunch of gallons to get ready to water. I've found that premixing nutrients and leaving them in the milk jugs for more than a few days can lead to the jugs becoming smelly.
So what? Buy a $15 kitty litter so you can use the container as a bucket? Why not just get a 5 gal bucket at Home Depot for $2.54 and not waste your money. So much things you pay lots of money for at a hydro store can be bought cheaper elsewhere. For instance, reservoirs. Rubbermaid Brute garbage cans are great reservoirs. I like them because they're cheaper than a res bought at a hydro store and they're tall instead of wide so they don't take up as much square footage. Just sayingthe kitty litter buckets are like 5 gallons
