What light is better?

Im new at indoor growing and am trying to get all my supplies together. either one will work. but what you really need is a HPS bulb with blue spectrum. Most horticulture HPS bulbs will have this blue spectrum. MH has too little red spectrum to be optimal during flowering. They are more but worth it in yeilds. Also its not a matter of how many plants its more a matter of sq footage. You should be able to do a 4 x 4 sq ft area with a 400 watt I believe.

I would go with the HPS.

No, No, and NO. That is not a mogul socket, and that is not a HID ballast, that ballast is for flouros. If you are looking for the diy approach to hps/mh it is going to be in the outdoors/security lights section at lowes. You are probably better off buying a ballast, reflector, lamp, and socket as a whole kit from somewhere like htgsupply.com. Their 400w grow light is ~$120 + shipping.

I agree with Bleubeard, order one from htgsupply. I wanted a cooltube, and with Bleubeards advise(thanx), I found what I was looking for at a good price. I ordered it on Thursday and I had it on Monday. Less than $100. delivered.
