what soil for seedlings and light

I'm moving tomorrow and in the next 2 or 3 weeks I will be gathering my supplies for growing. i already have seeds from attitude and i have a few questions...

1. After I germinate, can I use 3 inch pots and put my seedlings in fox farm soil? or should I just get rockwool cubes? Or do you recommend another brand of soil?

2. What light? Can I use my 600 watt MH bulb for seedlings? I'd like to not spend any more than I have to, as I'm up to approximately $500 for everything. Or will I have to use CFL bulbs for the first few weeks? If I do, I could go to walmart and get the sockets that can plug into an electrical outlet and then the Y splitter things. I could use some power strips I have and ge some major light going on in my tent

I want to succeed with my first grow as I would be upset to waste $140 worth of seeds lol.

Thank you for your input

BTW... Do you recommend buying regular seeds and taking a gamble or getting feminized seeds? I figured feminized seeds are cheaper because you won't waste time, energy (physical and electrical) and soil growing a male plant, plus you won't waste space.

BTW my entire house has CFL bulbs so if I do have to use them I'll replace them with regular light bulbs and when I'm done with my CFLs I'll put them back.

If you use fox farms for seedlings i would use light warrior not ocean forest. Light warrior is designed for seedlings and oceans forest would be to 'hot' of a soil..imo

^ good point. I have never had a problem with my seedling in FFOF though but can see what you mean. You can use your 600 just keep those seedling far enough Away from it. Were talking feet. But Like you said a few good cfls will be fine for the first couple weeks. I would prefer the cfls save some money as well. Just keep then within inches of the plant and don't expect everything to go so smooth the first time. This is a learning experience so you will probably make some mistakes. It's ok it's going to happen. Just don't believe everything you hear and you'll do fine. It's just a weed remember that hope it helps good luck !
