"A company made up of a few dozen people just got permission from a collection of federal agencies to try to land on the moon.

If they succeed, they'll follow the only three entities — the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China — to touch down on the moon. The trip would take them 10 times fartherfrom Earth than any commercial company has gone before.

Moon Express' rover is planned to weigh about 20 pounds and be about the size of a coffee table. Once it lands on the moon, it will turn its engine back on to hop around the surface.

The lander will have scientific instruments on board, including a lunar laser that will replace the longest-running Apollo experiment, which sends laser beams to Earth to measure principles of general relativity. Moon Express is also building an internet-run telescope and is hoping NASA will entrust them with a payload.

But the company's end goal is focused on more commercial goals, like mining for metals, fuels, and moon rocks. They're also offering to bring people's ashes to space."

You need permission to land on the moon??? Government isnt out of control or anything.... FFS!!

God damn you are crazy

A story about a private company landing on the Moon and you twist it into some bullshit about the government having too much control..

Maybe they need clearance because sending a rocket full of shit into the atmosphere could malfunction and land on your roof

I bet you put tape over your microphones and camera's, huh?

You are right. We are so hard hearted to you. You want to know the truth? 25 coke zeros a day are the path to miraculous health. Don't listen to them. You already know the truth. Those coke zeros are the best supplements around. 30 of them a day, that's the ticket. And ignore those symptoms the doctor warned you about. After all what does a doctor know?

Not just that, debris in orbit is dangerous to satellites as well, and if you put even a small amount of debris in the right orbit you can cause a chain reaction leading to a Kessler syndrome, meaning that there will be so much debris in orbit that it could literally make space travel impossible and trap us on earth for the foreseeable future. So allowing people to just send shit into space willy nilly is a terrible idea as the consequences could be absolutely disasterous.
