also, shouldn't reading lux still give me an accurate idea of how well the material reflects light, regardless of what the plants need?

fagetabout it. It's just a sheet of plastic. Most likely can be used for commercial printing. Do not waste time trying to cover walls with anything but white paint. You don't want anything that will never ever stay clean and good shape (no wrinkles or tears or better yet flapping noise. nothing lasts. ever. YOU only want flat white clean walls period. Put time into mastering growing not wall covering. Most sick plants are from over, under watering or nuts. major overkill. stick with seabird guano 10-10-10 and you will look like a master gardener. That seabird guano does wonders for all plant life. Rose bushes, house plants, organic herbs for eating. Love it. Best hiden secret on the net. $14. If your trying to spend money a dig. ph meter is worth gold till you know your water up/down for fast phing.

Flat white paint is good, properly applied mylar is better - see ResearchKittys info below.
Don't use it if you don't want, but the numbers speak for themself.

Yes and NO. Yes, reading the lux will give a good comparison of reflected light that a human eye can see. If your goal is to get maximum visible light for yourself, within your grow space, then you are on the right track. But No, because a surface with high lux may not necessarely have high red or blue spectrum and another surface, giving a lower lux reading, might be rich in red & blue.

Why should it be "regardless of what the plants need?", It should be ALL about the plants.
Good luck & good grow...BB

Hi Kode, if my attempt to inform came off wrong, then you have my sincere apologies. I had believed that Lumins were an important element in plant growth until about a week ago. Came across the info in that thread and got my grow ability fine tuned a little bit.
Believe me, It's not my intention to correct, only inform, the correction is up to you.
Good luck & good grow.......BB
