what would cause bho to taste piney?

is it just the way the strain tastes?

I recently did a bho run with blue dream. Buts its taste throws me off a lot. It has a really strong pine flavor/taste to it. What would cause this? Or is it just the way blue dream tastes? I know different strains have different tastes and this is the second run of bd I did that came out tasting super piney. I used almost all bud for this run. Very little stems or even leaf.

Any advice or anyone know why it tastes so piney?

Well most blue dream ive had has a berry piney taste. When making an extraction if alot of care isnt taken you can lose much of the lighter compounds effectively altering the flavor profile.

For example the blueberry has about 100 identifiable volatile compounds. The fruity notes are from esters and aldehydes with a relatively low boiling point, in fact about half that of pinene and similar smelling compounds

And no you cant remove them as their boiling point is about the same as thc..actually a little higher

Dammit. So basically if I kept the temp low while vac purging it would help keep some of the fruity flavor to it? Since I can't remove the pine taste I'd at least like to know if the lower temp would help keep the fruit or berry flavor?

It would.. less heat, less time.
If you have the means you could add them back to your oil..whether by collection or outside source
But thats generally looked down upon by extract "artists"

Yeah I'm not going to add synthetic terpines to my mixes. Just wanted to know how to turn down that pine flavor. Low heat and less time it is then.

I'll do another batch in a few days and I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Hopefully less pine flavor lol

I personally like the piney-ness... I have experienced this though, too. My recent 3d tasted almost like d-limonene from amazon. I also keep my temps as low as possible to get shatter(90-105max), which seems to convey more of the terpene flavor. But, when I run larger runs I usually do wax at a higher temp--and while this still has nice aroma and flavor, it's nowhere near as fragrant and fruity as the shatter.

The first batch i made was so strong i thought i fucked up and got soap in it some how. Tasted like pinsol lol Really strong pine flavor. Almost too much. So i did another run and it came out still piney as hell but not as strong. Ill be doing another run in a few days and will post my results with lower heat and vac time

Try adding a tiny splash of ethanol to assist w flavor preservation. I love the piney taste to such a degree, I target terpinoids to be included in the extract. The addition of hexane is used for terps, and the addition of chloroform targets THC and is very thorough as a solvent. Just a small amount is needed via pipette. Mz12x is dimethylether and is another great solvent to use, being careful not to overuse it is key. r-134a is also the shit. So there is many alternatives to butane, as Isobutane is way better than n-butane.

I must get bad ethanol then. I totally believe you, as i am noober, but when i use ethanol it seems the opposite occurs. That, or I'm confusing terpene flavor with plant wax, which I don't think is the case. I use that 192 proof polish vodka, maybe i need something else? Likely just a better alcohol purge method... Didn't mean to high jack. Man,b I'm high, jack!

I have this continuous supply of AFGHOO and man, 3 hours at 130-150kpa 134f, still taste piney, i dont mind it at all though because im averaging 7-8 grams per ounce so i stick with it, since every other strain i have cooked up gave me less then 6 grams per ounce.

As long as it sells I don't mind the pine flavor lol im starting not to notice it as much since I've been smoking it since I made it lol
