what would you do? Lighting

Hey all, I'm a relative noob here, but I do have a little bit of experience (guerrilla) growing. Anyway, I've been browsing threads here for a while now and I'm getting more and more excited about planning my own small indoor grow. So anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my lighting situation.

Here's what I'm working with:
I've got a cabinet which I'm coating with mylar. The floor space is 30" x 10.25" (2.1 sq. ft). It's 37" tall (regardless of the height, of course I'll position my plants such that they're just below the lights).
My lighting fixture accepts six bulbs and I'm going to try a SCROG grow.

I have 3 2700 Kelvin (warm red?) CFL's (100 W equiv.) and 3 6500 K (cool white?) CFL's (100 W equiv.).

Now the question: What would you do for lighting?

I was thinking of doing 3 cool white for veg (no need to overkill in such a small space - just a waste of electricity at some point, yes?) and 3 cool white + 3 warm red for flower.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to hearing what people think (and no cheating, like saying "I would go out and get an HID light"!)

Thanks, and keep enjoying life in any responsible way you want!

i think it my also depend on how many plants you plan to do... I have a space about the same size as you and I can run a max of 12 bulbs........and Justrecently added 2 cheap fluoro tubes in the corners for side lighting

You've totally got the right idea. Use the 6500k bulbs for vegging and dont use any of the warm lights. They will induce stretching.

When you get to flowering use as many warm lights as possible and throw in a cool one every now and then; say a 4:1 ratio.

For best results if you dont have a lot of sockets is to go for the 42 watters. They get hot though and can burn your leaves if they touch it without a fan directly moving air across the bulbs. The 23 watt bulbs are less hot but have still burned my leaves without a fan on them. I use these for side lighting and just kinda stick them in the side of the plant with a small fan on the bulbs. This keeps em cool enough

Excellent! Thanks for the advice everyone! My plan now is to switch my light fixture to an 8 light system and buy a few more of both the 6500K and 2700K.

I think I'll stick with the 26 watt (100 watt equiv) though because I don't actually have a light fixture with 6 (or 8) light sockets. It actually has only 3 (the new one will have 4) and I'm putting in those Y socket things to double up. However, each socket on the light fixture is only rated to be 60 W max, so 30 W max in each of the doubled up sockets. Considering lumens, it looks like you get more with two 26 Watts rather than one 42 watt.

oh yeah, and in case your interested, I think I'll be doing just one plant at a time for now (I'm doing SCROG and I'll have to start from seed, so I don't want to worry about disentangling a male from a female)
