It sucks but i have most on block now so my opinion can be written with no vpd rubbish or jarring wet weed or leds yeild %50 more etc etc etc yawn :-)

Post pictures of your grow please. Show the guys where you place your thermometer. BTW mine is placed in the canopy.

You may wish to consider moving on from RIU. Many, some would argue most, of our threads eventually take this bend in the road.

If I could offer the beginners one word of advice, it would be to watch who can remain cool under pressure and not go for the ad hominem. Also look for people who post actual pictures of their grow and if it looks like something you wish to grow take note of who they are.

If you don't wish to see brangling ask the people who you think know something via PMs.

If you disagree with me on how and where to place a thermometer then i cant agree with your analysis of me but should you agree then i have no reason to complain, seems fair :-)

this will be my go to thread for advice


FYI i resolved my temp reading issue in the most newb way possible, placed thermometers at 3 different locations in the tent.
ez peezy

69f at base of pot
79f at canopy hanging off end of light
76f at canopy height but off to side of tent, out of direct light, made a cardboard shroud for it.


exhaust running on low, humidifier on and fans circulating air, im happy

please someone tell me if those numbers are outta whack for any reason, from what ive read they seem to be in good range.

Those temps are perfectly fine and your plants look happy and healthy.

Why is KG all butt-hurt and proud about thermometer placement? Any expert in environmental sensing knows that you need more than one measurement, and at least three, because if you only have two datapoints, you won't know which one is right.... smh

Edit: at least he's not espousing how LED lights are the future of space travel :lol:

Now lets get to how we raise or lower the thermometer at the base readings or cool and heat your tent.

Your tents in a room, put heating in that room and thermometer readings rise, open a window or turn ac on and readings fall.

The way to cool or heat a tent is to control the room the tent is in. Tents with big ass exhausts equalize with the outside room air very quickly.

So now your set to control and master heat, its what we do no secrets just exact science plus we touched on wind a little.

All this falls over without plants being healthy, an unhealtht plant will make you think you have heat or the lights too close.

Temps in the room are set at 70f now, usually lights out temps hover around this number, 68-70f

i leave my exhaust running on low to combat the spike in rh and keep fans running to circulate air.

I am almost positive my shit isnt running 100% optimal compared to more experienced growers but its running and plants are growing and i havent killed them yet lol

if anyone notices im doing something wrong, please by all means, i wont be offended, let me know.

Also I don’t get what all this talk about temp is. Cannabis is a relatively hardy plant that grows well in a wide variety of conditions. Get the temp and humidity in a reasonable range and the plant will grow well. As you go on you learn what works best for your situation and plants. Dial it in. What’s the difference of a few degrees between direct and indirect light. Much to do about nothing. This plant grows outdoors all over the world. I’m proud of my plants and harvest...not my temps.

I guess the problem between indirect and direct light is that under the light it spikes and this leads growers to think they are running at very hot and thus think any plant problems are heat. Led users trolled a fortune of less than knowledgable growers who though they could buy colder light.

Simply explaining the science of heat convection conduction and radiation and then going on to say how each affects the humidity and temp meters normally straightens the issue and learns ya some hard science that not just mj growers use, the air temps on your weather report, fan ovens etc etc.

Yes its important to know how to set and where to set a thermometer :-)

it does grow in all kinds of conditions and temperatures, but that doesn't mean there isn't an optimal range to be in.
there are advantages and disadvantages to growing indoors, so you have to take all the advantages you can. we can never equal the power of the sun, but we can give a balanced spectrum in the proper ranges for any amount of time, with no clouds. we can provide optimal temperatures, that the plant can function in at high efficiency. we can control the humidity, the air flow, the amount of food and water.....so why wouldn't you try to be at the optimal point for all of these, if you can?

Money, my electrical bill ran thousands a month when the plants lived an optimal life. They live less optimally now. But with performance parameters I can live with.
