Real deal? or just expensive floros?

I have a 1000w hps that i'm using for veg and flower. i want something cheap and cool (small space) to use for just vegging about 5 plants.

Yeah, buddy. They're awesome. Lots of lumens for not a lot of volts. What more could you want? Also they give off minimal heat by comparison.

Why is there such a huge difference in price between what looks like similar products?

I'm thinking about a 4 foot 4 bulb T5 for vegging about 5 plants. Is this good?

I've seen them for around $140-180

Well, I would shop it around. I would expect to pay $50cnd per 4 ft fixture and bulb. But, I have seen them for cheaper.

Anyway, if you are footing the bill for your power I would invest in them, but hey, that's my style.

I'm looking around for some info about growing and about what kind of supplies I'm going to need for my first try!

I'm trying to save as much money as possible on lighting, also.
I don't want to be completely cheap or anything, but still want to get a cheap deal on some fairly good lights. Any advice on the cheapest but still good lights that will work for both veg and flowering?

Buy a T5 you wont be sorry they veg amazing and even though I plan to use a 600hps for flowering, I have seen some amazing buds with T5's aswell. they look great, they dont get too hot, and if you use the good hangers its the easiest light you will ever use

I just did a little comparison, flowering six plants under a 400w HPS and one under a 4-bulb warm t5 fluoro (I used cool t5 bulbs for veg). The yield from the t5 was pretty good, but the bud was airy and a little too green. The HPS stuff, by comparison, was tight and just the right color of green, and covered in crystals. It requires more initial cash outlay, as well as a more complicated ventilation and mounting system, and more electricity, but on a small scale the investment in a 400w HPS will pay for itself many times over on the first crop. Don't be cheap. Do it right. Your friends will be jealous of your yields.

Nah, Eugene Oregon.

It's actually been referenced as the hippy capital of the universe on futuramaaaa. Hahahahaha.

Plus, there's the massive amounts of ganja smokers and old hippies everywhere.

t5's are sweet, love them. I have 2 2ft four bulb units that i use for veg and flowering. I only have a small space to work with and an HPS would get way to hot. But if you were only going to use them for veg they would be the best thing in the world.

3 branches per node?????? one of my plants has 3 leafs/3 branches coming from every node.let me try to explain better since i am fairly new to this.out of all my other plants i grow or have grown i have only seen branches go in a (y) pattern.so at the top of your plant you have 2 leaves coming out across from each other.well ever since this plants been growing i have been having 3.and know my lateral branches are starting and there is three at each node spot.HAS ANYONE ENCOUNTERED THIS?if so what does it mean?i know 3 branches are better than two so i am happy that its gonna be a bushier plant and am not complaining.i just wanted to hear some feedback on what you guys think.as soon as i figure out how to load pics , i will post a few for you guys to see, thanks

I used t5's for vegging. I had a 4 bulb, 4 ft. with the blue and red spectrum mixed.
It took about 3 weeks longer to get good sized clones.
With the 400 watt MH for vegging, the clones were much stronger and bigger. And it took about half the time.

That about twice the watts right?

I use an 8 bulb 2' T5 with all blue and dont see better results over my 400 MH but i am using a smaller area now to veg. I think my t5 is 270 w and i like how i can tune it down by unscrewing the bulbs depending on my needs.
