Whats the Diff Between the HPS and the Metal Hallide Lighting Systems

hps is generally geared toward a red or flowering spectrum and metal halide is more of a blue and vegetative spectrum. You can use both for veg and flower but each is better suited for it's respective uses.

Best bet is to look for a digital ballast that can use both MH and HPS bulbs.

If you an only go with one bulb, I would choose a spectrum enhanced HPS bulb.

Ya, if you only have one light. Go with the conversion bulbs. Anyway, to the original question it's mostly about light spectrum. Metal halides are more blue which promotes the growth in stems and roots. Sativas almost NEED to veg under metal halides IMO or the stems can't support the weight of the buds.

Hps is a red spectrum which promotes flowering and fruiting. Perfect for flowering cannabis.

HOWEVER I have also heard switching back to a mh in the last two weeks of flowering provides some sort of heat radiation that stimulates the production of trichomes. I haven't tested this

your talking about 9x600 lights, thats 1 600 for every 4x4 space, you could just make 2 boxes one 8x4 with 3 600, (for flower) and the other 4x4 with 1 600 mh for veg, do 9-10 plants vegged to 24 inches then into the flower side, should pull around 4 oz a plant!

If you want a room grow, separate the room 2/3 to 1/3 flowering room and veg room. Make sure the door to the room opens into the VEG room or you will not be able to check the room after your 12/12 timers go off.

Honestly, I suggest hydro for a room of this size unless it is easily accessible for dirt loading.
