You cannot stop the influence peddling no matter how much you tinker with it. The politicians want you tinkering so you leave them mostly alone. Stop thinking by their rules.

I think that any entity that is not a living, breathing human being- AND a full citizen of these United States- should be disallowed from any activity that could be construed as political or attempting to influence the political process, and those responsible pay heavy fines and serve long prison terms for abuse of power.

That's not thinking like a politician.

I think the Feds have taken the ball handed to them and have run waaaay too far in the direction of self service and protecting megacorps from the average Joe.

So far as I can tell, that's about the extent of our disagreement, though.

Meh, then you have to disallow unions too. You would have to thwart technology and being able to donate 10 bucks over the internet to keep non-citizens from donating.

I don't think we can stop, or maybe we should not even try to stop, people from collectively pooling resources. That's what a union does, that's what a corporation does.

If the power was limited, the influence limited, you would see contributions dry up.

I think our best hope is for transparency.

Transparency is a requirement of a free society who really wants to live up to its promise of democracy.

I don't want to see labor unions with the power to influence politics with money, either.

I'm a big believer in the power of the people to decide for themselves and I aim to see this wildly tilted playing field leveled- so that the little guy has a voice that won't be drowned out by rivers of cash running through mountains of corruption.

I disagree. We are not disagreeing at all. We as Peeps, allow our States to let the Fed be this way. And it is becuase we would rather punt the big issues to the experts since we must have order, over many generations. And everything one does, affects the next generation. New tech, means neither you nor I know what to do with it. We have ideas, but we are not experts. We have influence, proportional to the influence we have as a State. The Govt hires the experts. But, they are system experts not people experts

WE the Peeps have punted. Punting is quite within the rules, you know. When we punt, by definition, we are out of ideas. It could be the Achilles heel, but I don't think so. We have the right to remain silent, and let the experts work it. Else, we riot.

We band together and raise a log cabin. We have 10 log cabins and we can't decide how and where to build the road. We punt. We elected a leader to look at it all, and decide.

Self rule, is punting. Self rule, is bitching. Self rule is Money. Self rule is taking it to the streets.

But, we have these laws and they are very difficult to enforced.
Every election and especially this last one that re-upped Obama.
There are claims of $$Millions rolling in from all over the world.

I happen to think that accepting money from foreign governments to support one's political aspirations already has a word to describe it; TREASON.

True story; my old landlord in Arkansas was a guy named Charlie Ya Lin Trie. I knew he was connected, but after I left the state (I was growing the whole time) I heard about his indictment- for funneling money from the Communist Chinese to the fucking Democratic National Committee! Surely some of that money helped elect Mr. Bill, the Clinton.

This is absolutely destructive to any idea of democracy.
 
When you first have power things work like they should. Then, once you have what it takes to keep it, that is when the corruption starts to ever so slowly creep in. First it's just a simple gift, then it shmoozing on a Yacht, then one or more of your trusted confidants comes to you with a plan, before you know it, you have skeletons that are so persuasive that they make you do the bidding of the actual real power located in the great financial centers of the world.

Does Clinton cheat on his wife with younger women? You know he does. Would you put it past him to have sex with 16 year old girls vs going back to the white house for nooky time with the old lady?
