When can a plant be topped?

Mine has started the flowering cycle a few days ago, can I safely top it during the flowering stage.......would that be a smart move, or would it stop progress?

flowering time will be stalled and yield will be much less. Topping is only good if you let the plant fully recover from the stress before budding
