When do buds fatten up?

I'm in week 5 of flower and most of my strains have pure white hairs sticking off tiny buds, but they aren't fattening up yet. Some other strains are starting too but there slow too. Wondering if I'm just being impatient or wondering if something is wrong. When do they start fattening up?

When preflowers swell and pistils on them turn brown the rest will be soon to follow, three weeks before the end i notice swell and changing pistils then everyday till chop i see more.

If the plant is stressed this may not happen...

OK so weeks 6 through 9 they bulk up? Right now there all just little tiny buds with white hairs sticking out, some strains have started bulking out. Wonder if I should throw them an extra hour or two of darkness? I'm running 12 and 12 now

Extra darkness isn't going to do anything to bulk up the buds. They'll bulk up when they bulk up. Unless something goes wrong. Over fertilizing can stunt bud development. Lack of adequate light can affect it as well. Environmental factors contribute. There are many variables. You can't just say this week or that week. Some Sativa's go for 16 weeks. Some Indica's are ready in under eight.
You don't say what strains you're growing either. You can't go by the description from the breeder because they always claim they'll be done sooner than usual.

Breeder recommends 7 to 9 weeks for the strains I ordered. Week 6 starts tomorrow. Critical kush, lsd, pineapple chunk, super skunk, big bud, blue cheese are the strains I ordered. 2 plants died and not sure which is which til I harvest . Got a jewelers Loupe 30x and 60x with led light coming in the mail from Amazon to keep an eye on trichome development as they progress. So your saying its possible some of these strains could take longer than 9 weeks? There Indica dominant because I wanted denser buds and shorter flower time, shorter plants due to low ceiling

They could take longer than 9 weeks but probably not for indica dominate strains. At six weeks you should have more than just tiny buds. Sounds like something going on. But they can swell up pretty fast sometimes. Pictures say 1000 words.

Lights come on in about 4 hours. I'll take some pictures later and post them to see what you think

Newbie grower here, but first switching to 12/12 should not be considered your first week of flower. Unless they started sprouting pistils on the first day. You have some time yet to start bulking, make sure you are running the right nutes. I switched mine 12/12 on May 1st and it took about 10 days to spot a pistil. I figure I have until July 10th-13th at the earliest to harvest G13 Haze.

**Edit** I am basing this on seedbanks under cutting their flowering times, real world flowering times are more realistic when you subtract the time they were not showing hairs yet. You will hear both sides to this some say 12/12 some say when you first see hairs.

By far the majority of us count from switch to 12/12. Its a constant then. Breeders do in fact count from 12/12 as well but unless your a grower in Hydro under perfect conditions then you will run longer. I'm in soil for eg and under a 600W so I'm always going to be longer.

I actually count when you see a small bud with hairs and count from that day onwards.but thats talking outside and it should b no different to indoors.
I couldnt view all pics only first one.stoopid frocken android ,and i could see from what xtsho mentioned on the tips..they dont look bad,but wait till the 8th week you will see 2/3rds ofthe pistils brown and should see with the loupe trics turning amber, but its entirely up to you what kind a smoke you want to suit your needs .ive had plants with pistils all brown but when viewed with the loupe the trics were still milky.so i wouldnt b surprised they might go to 9 weeks.if its just personal choof i usually do boutique cuts when i see the tops or some branches ripe before others..

indoor and outdoor is different, That's why with outdoor times they give you an early/late month finish date,

So I should probably say I'm going on week 5 instead of week 6 since the transition isn't counted as a week of flower? I never got any burn on my plants until I heavily defoliated fan leaves a week or so ago. That's when they started to burn a little. I have been dropping ppms if they rose past 650 ppm on the .500 scale. Some of them start burning above 700 ppm I found. So I just gotta be more patient. They are starting to fatten up slowly each day I notice. I'm just impatient I guess. There smelling amazing though.

Nice plants, nice thread! They should develop nicely over the next 3 or 4 weeks, then we would know if they needed more time.
Good info above.
Happy Growing!

Thanks bud. Happy growing to you too. Can't wait til my first real legal harvest. Getting excited. Especially since the bills are fucking each other and multiplying. Lol I love growing but damn it's expensive to get everything you need to start up, then getting stuff when you run in to problems. Then the bills start rolling in and it can be overwhelming. It's definitely not cheap to grow I learned. It better be worth it in the end is all I'm hoping. I put literally everything I had into it, and keep doing so. Not only money but time and work also. I hope it pays off. I've done my best to give them the best environment I possibly can.
