when do i switch to a 12/12?

the plant is about 45 days now and 13-15 inches.

for a while i had it on 8+ hours of light (left it outside, basically)

and then switched to 16/8 about a week ago.

i think i read that the lighting is supposed to be switched when it's about 1/3 the height you want it to be?


is this true?

also, for flowering, do you just switch lighting and that's all?
 
With 4 feet of grow room, approxmiately how tall before should the plants be before I flower ? How many times does one top the plant before flower ?
 
a plant will easily double in size when you switch to flowering. might need to tie branches down if you end up with hardly any space!!!
 
Essentially, topping only spreads out bud and gives you a bush, not a tree. we'd need pictures to tell if your plant is ready for flowering. If it's tall and spindly right now then it is probably a sativa dominant and can quadruple in height. 13-15 inches is a good flowering point in my opinion, how many nodes does it have?
 
there were six nodes (which i think you mean sets of leaves?) but i trimmed one set so now it has five sets of leaves.
 
oh and my plant is a sativa, i'm pretty sure...tall an skinny?

that looks like either a 50/50 hybrid, or an indica with inadequate light. the leaves are too fat to be a pure sativa.
 
it's just a seed from a random bag. nothing special. i don't have too much lighting now for financial purposes, just one light i keep on it for 12 hours and rotate the plant (once the plant gets a little bigger/i have more money i will get more lights)
 
hey, my plant just poked itself above the ground, how much light should I give it? I just have one flourescent bulb above it right now.
 
hammertime- i would expect about a 8-9 week flowering also i would reccomend gettin 2 48" ottlite t12s @ 40 watts that makes em grow nice
zakcattack- a plant needs only about 2000-2500 lumens to grow i would get 2 cfls (about 4000 lumens) or the 12's like i explained above to hammertime they work really good i have 14 t12 lights on 26 plantas and they grow spectacular
