When do you harvest ( trichomes/pistils )?

I had read somewhere here on RIU that the trichomes on the leaves mature more quickly than the trichomes on the buds, hence if you go off of them you may harvest before the trichs on the buds are ripe...but, hey at least now you know :)
that is true i believe. i was measuring on leaves and they looked amber already checked on the buds they are only half clear half cloudy.

make sure youve either got a hygrometer in there for general temps and humidity sitting on a pot or something , really recommend the little laser ones as well , really good for checking canopy and where ever in a flash really.

Gotta check those trichs on the nugs for sure man , I usually check main cola top and bottm , middle nug and bottom nug , gives you a good idea.
i have 2 hygrometers both reading pretty much the same temps and RH swings about 2-3% off only. RH im not really worried about i can always lower my RH easily it is my actual temps that is harder for me to lower during flowering. i need to run AC and unless i close my bedroom door and windows i can't really cool down the room. i can't close my door either because of my dog

Have you thought about an air cooled system? What lights are you using? How hot is it getting?

I have a window intake into the tent , 18 inch fan blowing that around , then my extract is part of my Maxibright goldstar hood , sucked through there past the bulb and out into attic.

im running HLG QB. dont think an air cooled system will do anything i live in Hawaii so yea it is hot and humid here year round. i also live in a hot area as well some areas are actually nice and cool/cold compared to where i live

oh damn Hawaii huh :P

LEDs then? alright alright , can defo see that being the ticket with how hot it must get there , run a 600w HID myself still , not ready for LED yet , all organic and in soil as well.

Good luck with the grow dude good vibes your way <3

I really think there is WAY too much emphasis put onto trichomes. I havn't looked at a trichome in years at this point.
I agree with you 100%.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I used a scope at stared at trichs, and almost lost my eyesight.
Now the pistils tell me everything I want to know.
I wait until they are around 50% to 65% brown, then I cut.
The plant will continue to mature even after being cut, so by the time it dry's, it will be 100%

I would venture to say that proper drying/curing once chopped is equally as important as harvesting at the correct time...just my opinion though. It's most certianly a whole other process that, as growers, we have to get used too.

Slow drying is VERY important to getting good flavor and smoke. I honestly think letting the plant properly mature is more important then "curing" though. You can't make poorly grown early harvested weed taste good by curing it. Curing can make it a little better sure, but letting it finish properly on the plant will make it WAAAY better.

I haven't cured weed in years because it is always gone too fast. People rave about the flavor and they don't know I grew it, so I know they aren't just being polite.

yea heat here is an issue for me especially summer time it is hell humidity i can control fairly easy but heat pisses me off. if our house was small i can drop temps but we live in a big house with only 1 AC
