when is it "technically" in flowering stage?

i saw another post about how the plant can still vegetate about 2 weeks into the 12/12 light cycle switch. my concern is the timeframe to flower my plants.

i have a few plants with estimated 8-10 week flower time and i'm moving to 12/12 earlier than i would prefer. does that mean the 8-10 weeks does not begin until a couple weeks into the 12/12 cycle? or does the flowering stage begin the moment you switch to 12/12 ?

Flowering starts the day you switch them to 12/12. They do not continue to veg for the first few weeks of flower though they will contine to grow. After 2 weeks, you should see clusters of white hairs all over the plant which is not what plants to in veg ;)

I switched to 12/12 on the 3rd of this month. My first white hairs appeared on the 7th, barely visible. Now it's day 12 and there is loads. As soon as you switch to 12/12 that begins the flowering time, so when lights go to 12/12 it'll be approx. 8-9 weeks ( 4 me n e way) till they are done! :) :leaf:

Those "8-10 week" flowering periods that the seedbanks give you, are supposed to be estimated from the time you switch to 12/12. Mine take about 9 weeks, so their estimate seems pretty accurate.

yeah, when you switch the lights its in flowering stage, dont add any time to your estimate of how long it takes to get done. I usually see white hairs about day 7-10 on what i grow. thats just how long it takes for the plants to know that they are supposed to stop vegging and start making buds

I always give 10 days till I start counting. Best way IMO. Clones i only give a week they show sooner than when going from seed. I set target date and check trics ever other day till rdy.

so you just hit the nail on the head,so flowering dose not start till 7-10 days after switch.perty much 2 wks later...hmmmm...everyone must learn how to read a plant.
and i have never had a plant get done when the breeder says it will be........but time will tell..who has some pics??

the flowering CYCLE starts the first day of 12/12.

it's not like the plant can spit out hairs overnight.

as soon as the plant gets 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness it switches to flowering mode. this would be on the fist night of 12/12.

it takes time for plants to grow. just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't flowering.

day 1 of flowering is the first day you change the light schedule.

fdd knows his shit... the day after I started I saw a change in the plants. They kinda started clumping together at the tips and shooting up with the main stalks, in other words it's just visible as soon as it gets a 12/12 IMO like I said i saw hairs on day 4 . honestly it doesn't matter the count now does it? they are done when the trichs are acceptable to the grower, done when done. here I will post a pic of day 4 then now day 12.

Day 4 of 12/12 you can see the tiny white hairs just look close

DAY 12 of 12/12 much more pronounced and clumping together

even though it took 2 weeks of flowering to get it there.
Yes. It's not a machine with a light switch. It's a plant. From that day forward I've noticed mine are done within breeders specified dates. Now if you find that your 8 week blah blah is consistantly done at week 9 - 10...perhaps your plant didn't switch like a light switch but rather took 10 days or so to recognize the change. Often on this board I read people that have strains that are actually finished 10 - 14 days after the breeders specified dates. They all claim the breeders are overly optimistic with their times. I claim they shouldn't have regarded their plants as machines by counting the second THEY decided to switch the lights.

Want further proof? Explain plants grown 12/12 from seed. Is flowering the second they are put into the dirt?

BCBuddy420: I would've counted that first picture as day one. It does not matter to me if it takes 1 day to see the hairs or if it takes 14. The plant is going to tell me when...I am not going to tell the plant. (they don't listen)
