When is time to Harvest?

Hey guys,

I have a few questions. I'm curious about when to harvest. I won't have the ability to get a 30x microsocope or anything of that sort to check my trichromes color. I have heard though if going by eye, harvest when the hairs get to be about 75% reddy orangy brown.

With that said, I'm wondering if I would damage my plant if I harvested from the bottom up. I have a few buds on their own branches off the main middle stalk that have buds that are like 75+% brown haired. Would I shock the plant if I am cutting it?

I am currently on week 7 exactly today of flowering for my Bubba Kush strain.

Pics 1 & 2 are of the top of the plant, I don't think it's ready yet.
Pics 2, 3, & 4 are of lower teeny buds that may be ready to harvest for a sampler - opinions?.
Pic 6 is the best closeup I can get with my iPhone on zoom to check the trich's colors. Not close enough!

i dont know what ur feeding that plant but u got some small buds..might wanna feed her some CARBs to fatting them buds up..what do u feed now?

This is my first grow, and I'm feeding it just flowering 10-30-10 best brand i could buy from the greenhouse, so should be better quality then wal-mart. I'm also feeding it some epsom salt when i add nutes to the water, as well as some ph down as the nutes were way to acidic and to level off the ph in the soil. Feed with nutes 1 out of 3 waterings.

Those small buds you were referring to were the teeniest buds at the bottom of the plant. Stragglers that I wanted to clip off. The other buds are all of a more decent size. What I understand though from the strain - I heard that bubba kush characteristically has low yields - does that translate to smaller buds? Seeing as this is my first grow there are things I probably am not doing 100% correct - it probably is also partially due to my light, which is a 250w MH that I'm stuck with using for flowering. The light is I think too weak to reach the middle of the plant - I would prob have much better buds if I used a 400w HPS for flowering.

Anyways, the pics are decieving - it looks much better in real life. Please note that my plant is pushing 5 feet tall at 7 weeks..... yikes!

Pics 1 and 2 show the top main cola. I don't think it's ready yet. You can see how tall it is in relation to my hand.
Pics 3, 4, and 5 show the mid section of the plant. Again pictures don't do it justice. There is a nice consistency of buds all tall as my index finger.
The last pic shows a bud in the mid-range area of the plant, and you can see the color of hairs on it. I don't understand it, but they look alot stickier in real life - the camera doesn't pick it up.

Radio Shack sells a mini-scope that is only $12.49 (USD). Possibly you could manage that? It is not the ultimate of scopes but it is easily enough to do the job.

HAHA! I'll definitely 'scope it out'! Thanks!

Hey, also I am wondering how I would make the cuts to harvest the live plant (if I want to harvest some of the lower buds).

Do I make the cut at the bud, or by the stalk? And on an angle, or just whatever? And how close do I make the cut?

Thanks in advance.
