When should i start using nutes?

Hi everyone,

I used to give nutes to my girls shortly after their first transplant. usually they would get burnt on me. A friend told me that good soil(promix) will be enuff to support the plant through most of the veg stage. This current run i have fed them nothing and they are very healthy green and growing strong in their 7th week of veg. I know i'll have to feed them eventually.. My question is how do you know when your plant needs that first feeding?

A good soil will get you all the way trough a veg period. In fact, the 2nd most common mistake new people make (after over watering), is over feeding. They get good soil, good nutes, and think they should use em. On the other hand a depleted soil might only get you through the first week (which is really just the plant using it's own stored energy). I feed lightly (2g/gal) when they go from the dixie cup to medium containers. I also reuse my soil, and don't prep it with anything except worm castings. I don't recommend anyone do this - I do it because I can manage it, and it saves a lot of money.

I have some plants in recycled soil. Im still learning how to manage it. lol I've had a few issues.:cry::-?:-|

The safest way to feed is after the cotyledons fall off, you can't harm your plant this way and In nature the cotyledons are there to feed the plant till the roots are established enough to feed and sustain the plant, the plant will do fine without nutes for close to a month in fact I only start feeding after the first fan leaf falls off from the plant canabalising its lower leaves, but we all have different ways of growing
