When should I top my young mothers?

I have 3 plants currently, they will be mothers for my hydro setup. The mothers are in dirt. I have a AK-47 (from clone), a Bigfoot (from clone) and a White Widow (from seed), with a Northern light from seed is in the nursery.

My question is, how big should I let them get before I should top them?

Sorry about the lines on the photos, it is due to the 400w and my cell phone.

i like to wait until they're about two to three feet tall, unless you need like A cut..topping now would just stress them out imo seeing as they're still babies..you might prune every other large leaf once a week to let in light and quicken growth..all this stuff works well for me i hope it helps some..

I'd agree with let them grow out for a little while. Take the top as a clone when you do top them.
Is space an issue for you? Check into Bonsai mother plants.

No space isn't an issue. My concern is the longer they go the taller it will be when it grows the new tops. When you say to prune every other big leaf to let light through, is that every other on each level or just evey other one I see? I don't want to hurt the plant. So can u glance at the pics and tell me what u think. Also when I top, how far should I cut down, I know 4 nodes, but if a leaf comes out does that count as a node, or just the ones with pairs?
