When should I use the lights I have.

How old are they now is the question?

A 600 watter can be too much for very young upstarts, but once they are about 6" tall they can handle it fine as long as the lamp is 12-18" above the canopy. Young plants in veg also do just fine with CFL's, but I'd be using T5's at least. HPS bulbs are best for flower, MH bulbs are best for veg. The 150 watter would be perfect prob if you could throw a MH bulb in it.

The more light the sooner, the better though. Give it to em as soon as they can handle it.
They might grow quicker under the HPS bulb than T5's, so if hes not using it he mineaswell right?...depending on how big the plants are ofcourse.
I know lots of people who VEG and FLOWER under HPS bulbs and come out just grew.
The only thing is, people suggest to use MH for veg and suggest to use HPS for flower, it might make a difference but theres more than one way to skin a cat.

you right Bwpz it's not better than the sun it can compare to the sun 1 it's free 2 its the strongest light there is and keeps the nodes closer and thicker buds 3 I guess that's why over 99% of the grow in the world and before there were mh or hid plants were grown and probably some of the best meds that were smoked or were ever smoked guarentee if growers had access to grow outside year round and didn't have to worry about the police there wouldn't be no need for any mh or hid IMHO and any grower with experience would agree.

I agree with smoking58. I wish I could grow outdoors in a green house all the while running my aero setup. Talk about getting some awesome results! :(

I spend less than $15/month on electricity using (1) 150W HPS and (5) 43W cfl's to flower one plant. This includes fans and carbon filter. You really dont start spending good money until you get over 400W HPS but even that only runs about $13/month by itself to run on 12/12 cycle. It also depends the rate you pay but all in all it takes a lot to budge my bill with what I use.
Yeah, that ain't much consumption either! I paid about $70.00/month with 2 tents (1 for veg and 1 for flower), 300 watts of T5 lighting, a 400 watter for flower, mad fans, and a damn portable a/c unit to keep my temps down since I was in TX at the time. Just depends on your setup and where you are growing.

oh yeah for sure! i look at it like this tho: it takes money to make money :)
go check out my grow thread. putting new pics in about 15 mins or so.
If you're in a cooler climate or escalating electric bills are not a problem then go for it! Is it your sig link?

I am currently growing 2 White Rhino and 2 master Kush under 3/42 watt CFL's. I have a 150watt HPS (not set up in tent), and a 600watt HPS cool tube currently installed into the ducting of my tent. Should I be running my 600 watt HPS now, or should I only run it when I switch over to 12/12 on my lights?
run the 600 and the 150 all throught the grow.biggest yields and growth.more light = more weed :)

O WOW THIS DESERVES A SIG.. and your serious. shame
Maybe you guys aren't getting what I meant, I do live in the mountains, and if I put a plant outside it wouldn't strive at all. Our sunlight is horrible around here.

And okay, 10k lumens per square foot. My closet is 3sq ft and is receiving 90k lumens. Do the math.

How about this. You guys go grow a plant outside, and I'll grow a single plant in my closet under a 1000w HPS, which one do you think would be better (if the season was right, mind you)?
