When They Say "9 Weeks," What Do They Mean?

I've just started growing this season, so I don't have a feel for the duration of a complete grow.

The breeders will list such specs as "flower in 60 days," which I've interpreted to mean "once it flowers, it will be 60 days 'til harvest." The few plants I've harvested so far followed this model, flowering at approx. 4 weeks from germination (they were autoflowers) and harvestable about 60 days later, or roughly 88 days from germination.

Is there any consistency in this terminology? Am I overthinking this?

only autoflowers really can do 60 days til harvest but its because they veg and flower at the same time so they dont need the extra month like most other strains do. most strains will require a little over two months to completely flower. good luck

You got it -- non-autos that say "9 weeks" means that you can expect to wait 9 weeks between first going 12/12 to harvest. Autos with times attached refer to number of days/weeks in dirt. Flowering times are also affected by how long you veg. Plants vegging longer will (usually) start flowering earlier.

If I follow you:

• Non-autos would nominally be X (weeks from germination to flower induction) + 9 weeks in your example = total duration.
• Autos would be ~4 (weeks from germ to flower, a pretty standard 4 for autos) + Y (whatever the seed bank says "flowers in this many weeks") = total duration?

These are just formulas for approximating, of course. I'm using trichome color for final harvest decisions.

agreed..provided they are a strain that does turn amber. Lots of autos dont from reading the auto threads.

With photos i recon go one further..if it says 10 weeks for flower, I take that to mean from the FLOWERING, not from the stretch.

Breeders mean from when you flip the lights to 12/12.

That is it. Nothing else.

However you'll need to have your grow room at optimal temps / humidity and light intensity.

Generally they take a week or more, but I have had plenty finish in the recommended time frame.

Get a little microscope and watch it. You'll learn when their ready. The calyxes will swell and hairs recede.

I tend to harvest at the onset of Amber if in fact they do turn Amber as some have not, photo's included. In my experience the breeders are not to far off time wise if taken when all cloudy. I've had a couple that I let go, IMO, to long and potency had suffered, I was waiting for Amber that never really came lol. I do think they are referring to the change of light schedule but WTF do I know lol.

I have to agree with this method. I've seen people start counting after seeing first baby hairs after flip. Then turn around with is it ready? Half the time they're advised to give it another week or 2.
Same thing with my last run. Stated flowering time was 65-70 days. They were in 12/12 for approximately 12 weeks before chop.
The same with a majority of previous runs. Usually tack on 7-10 days after flip.

That is false.
I've read the exact opposite from breeders. It is days from the flip. Really simple. And if you keep track, you'll notice you'll come in early sometimes, and late others. But it is days in 12/12, not onset of flowers. Otherwise, my 50 day strain would run 60-65, and my NYCD would run nearly 90! My buds would have no thc if I did that. And I'm running a Hawaiian haze that didn't have flowers for 18 days. That would be a 16 week flower!
