When to change to 12/12

Does anyone have an idea of when it is best to begin the flowering process?

Are there any indicators to look out for which tell the grower when to change the lighting cycle and also are there any neccessary things you must put in place to ensure a healthy productive yeild.

I am currently growing three northern lights under a flurescent but plan to change to a 400 sodium for the flowering?

Please advise?

Howdy punarnee...sounds like a decent setup. You want atleast 4-5 nodes minimum, and about 12" height for that setup. You may want to grow it a couple inches further, your decision. I flowered mine at 12" and ended up with 3' plants, so they can triple in size when switched to flowering. They will certainly atleast double in size though.
Peace

i found my 400 WATT HPS did not make good buds over 18" tall plants, and i kept mine usally 6-8 inches away... anything below 18" was not worth growing... maybe different situations apply.

That's each point on the main stalk where the branches sprout. Each node is usually a couple inches apart.

a node is where the stem from leaves and etc intersects with the main stalk (where the stem grows off of the stalk). You can induce flowering at any time, but it really all depends on your height constraints. Expect your plant to get 2-3 times taller when you flower.

Plants from seed need to grow for around 4-6 weeks to reach maturity before you put them on the flowering mission. As for clones on the other hand, you may throw them in the flowering room immediatley.

Just a bit more info for ya....

Everyone seems to have different times that they flower. 12"-24" seems to be the norm. But also take into consideration the plants age. Age is very important. I flower mine at 8 weeks. This gives ample time for the plant to develope and mature as it would in nature. It's kind of like a grape vine with age and yeild.
But like videoman said, you have to take into consideraton how much height you have to grow. If height is not really an issue for you, lt 'em grow a while,
you'll be happy you did.
Also, pre-sex flowers are a good indication the plant is ready. These are the little pods with hairs that come out under the node.
