i harvest when the hairs have got 60% brown 40% white but most use pocket microscopes and look at the crystals to see if there going cloudy but ive never used it and never had a problem and look for pistols swelling up and the hairs that told you it was female going back into the pistol

how much brown hairs are on it?

If you can get your hands on a pocket microscope/magnifier, something with 20x-60x magnification, check the trichomes... Personally, I like to harvest when my trichomes are mostly cloudy with a little amber colour just starting to creep in.
If you can't get a magnifier... you're best bet would be to go by the pistils. Wait until almost all of the pistils have turned the amber/brown colour just to be sure she is finished.

make sense?

There is no way to tell by simply looking at a plant. Anyone who tells you differently has no idea what they are talking about.
You cannot go by hairs either. I have seen plants with solid white hairs with amber trichs, and I have seen strains with every hair receded and red/orange and still mostly clear/some cloudy trichs.

Pros use scopes, only a straight up newb thinks they can look at a plant and know if it is mature.

Yep you are right but without a scope there is not much else to look for.
I have done the cheap convert a cellphone camera into a scope with a laser pointer magnifying lens thing but really is not the same as an actual scope or loupe.
Pistils are at least an indication in the right direction but besides that those heads do look like they can still fill out a bit more.

Apologies for my presumptuous behaviour being a newbie here and all that.
