When to Switch From Veg to Bloom Nutes with Autos

I found this elsewhere posted by Muddy. Users of this system are reporting LARGE yields of 4, 5, and 6 plus OZ. I am currently growing three Dinafem Critical Jacks and one Blimburn Super Auto using this method. So far they are growing lush and fast. They are in week 5.

"Another common question I see is when to switch autos from veg to bloom. Many people are under the impression that as soon as they see the first flowers it's time to switch. Perhaps a little explanation of the life cycle of autos will help to clarify this.

Weeks 1 - 3. Once you've started your seeds and they break the surface of the soil, they are in their seedling stage. The first set of leaves to appear will usually single fingered, followed by a second set that may still be single fingered or perhaps 3 fingered. Once that second set appears growth will start to accelerate as the new leaves provide more photosynthesis. This process will continue, more new leaves, faster growth. Depending on the type of soil in use, mild vegetative nutes can be introduced at week 2. By week 3 most plants will start to show their sex. Males will start to produce pollen sacks and females will display pistols.

Weeks 4 - 6. The plants are now entering a pre flowering stage. During this time the plants should exhibit explosive growth, often as much as a new set of nodes and 1" vertical growth a day. This is the time when they will gain most of their vertical height. Many people make the mistake of switching from vegetative to flowering nutrients at this point, assuming that since they see flowers it must be the proper time. This is incorrect. If the switch to flowering nutes is made at this time the vertical growth will stop and the plant will put it's energy into producing buds. If you need to keep your plants small, or want them to finish earlier, they by all means switch nutes at this point. But if you want to get the most out of your plants continue feeding vegetative nutes until you see the vertical growth slow and stop. Depending on the strain that will usually be sometime during week 5 or 6.

Weeks 7 - 9. By now vertical growth has stopped and the switch to flowering nutrients has been made. The buds will start to fill out and put on weight, becoming hard and tight. Pistols will start to change from white to brown, orange, red, etc. By now the plants will also have developed a strong smell. Toward the end of this phase the large primary and smaller secondary fan leaves will begin to turn yellow. This is an indication that the plant is moving toward the end of it's life.

Weeks 10 - 11. At this time flowering nutes should be discontinued and only plain pHed water fed to flush the remaining nutrients from the soil and improve the taste. Yellowing of the fan leaves will continue as the plant draws the stored energy from them. Eventually they will die and fall off. By the time that the smaller leaves that come from out of the buds will also start to turn yellow. Then it's time to harvest.

I know that many of you are thinking that the seed bank said the plants will finish in 8-9 weeks, so why are you saying they take 10-11? The claims made by the seed banks are somewhat deceptive. If you switch to flowering nutes at week 3 or 4 the plants can finish in the times the seed banks say but they will remain small and not reach their full potential yield. Years of growing by myself and others has shown that autos do best if you follow this time line."

Of course, there will always be variations depending on the strain, the environment, nutrients, etc. This information is meant to only serve as a general guideline.

Thanks for that info, I was looking for something like this. My first grow will be all autos.

Usually. I don't care. I start feeding with bloom nutes. I don't ever use veg food for autos. It's all about how YOU want to grow it. I know people that don't use bloom nutes and only veg? Some use no nutes? Fuck it

Hey to each their own right? But I am looking for the largest yield I can get. I think this method maximizes your yield potential.

The purpose of my post was not to say this is the ONLY way to grow. Feel free to grow your plant the way you want too lol but for me, I have little experience in autos and this was welcomed info for me.

Any Pics from these six ouncers?

I'd consider it... But pics say 1,000 words :D
i am trying the method for the first time, my girls wont be done till late april. I did post a pic of one of my girls in veg in another thread. i am just passing the info along. I got the info from a thread from another autoflower community. If you do a google search for "autoflower muddy veg" the first hit will take you to the original thread and author of this method.

are you saying im not exp with autos? hahahaha.ive got 12 ufos over 12 plants pullin 3oz a piece off of them every 60 days... my limit is 24 btw. just have to get enough money for the other lights. those fuckers are expensive...running from the feds was not my plan. so minus a year i was gone, i got 8 years exp :Dill check the post out but... i wont be intrested if its a certain strain. because im dedicated my life to Nirvana. and the only strain i can get are five different ones so...

"are you saying im not exp with autos?"

Nah not at all, I am the one who has very little experience in autos. I am on my 2nd auto grow. I scoured the internet looking for grow methods for Autos so I could understand their life cycle and maximize their yield. That's how I found Muddy's post at another community.

I read his post, saw the positive reactions it was getting from other growers so I thought I would share the info.

When it comes to growing; I keep a VERY OPEN mind and I love to experiment. I keep a hand written grow journal and notate my experiences.

So I am trying this method for the first time and I will see how it goes. This is definitely not about a certain strain.

muddy knows his stuff and if your space allows and you really want to see what ur autos can do put em in 5 gal fabric or air pot and follow the guidelines above. im little limited on space do i dont shoot for monster autos but 3+ oz works great for i like em 2 foot tall and fat :)

I can't wait to see what the final result is using this method. I am growing DWC 5 gal buckets under 2 600w. Under MH for about another week then I switch to HPS

I know this is an old thread but what about dwarf autos with very little stretching. I'm planning to grow shortstuff#1 and I need it finished in no too much more than 8 weeks if possible. Waiting until weeks 5 or 6 before introducing bloom nutes seems like a very short period for flowering. I was thinking about starting with the bloom nutes around week 4 in the hope of yielding a little more as fast as possible.

newb here, this is some good shit. not a grow swami by any stretch, but, i will say that this timeline is way more accurately reflected by my current grow. so, in this, and especially the part of seed distributor deception on the grow terms, i am pretty relieved that there’s most likely a week 10!! hahaha

At this point in 4/6 weeks it started to grow. Should i be at full strength with grow nuts ?

think the protocols above never reached full strength, maybe i missed something. maybe during flowering? i’m of the impression that less is more in indoor autoflower cycles
