I'm just north of the 45th. We've been having a mild winter. I had 2 too many for my tent, so one stayed in a 1 gallon and went on the kitchen table with houseplants, and one went outside -- on February 6th. It was a sink or swim thing, something too loose and unplanned to refer to as a true experiment.
The one inside just stunted, so after about a month I put it in a 10 gallon cloth pot outside with the other one. Here's a pic from this morning. They are alive and well. The cool temps keep them growing slowly, so even though it seems like they are thinking about flowering, they're too cold to do anything about it. I'm hoping they go back to veg and then get on a normal cycle, but I have no idea what will happen.
Last year I vegged two for 4 weeks inside, and then put them in the ground the last week in April. Again, it was still cool enough that their metabolism was slowed down, so they just hung out until it warmed up and then vegged normally. I suppose if you are in a warm climate things will happen more quickly and you've got more to worry about.
