When to top my plants?

I have a plant thats been growing outdoors and is currently 2 ft. tall. I'm wondering when I should top, and if so, should I top more than once? Suggestions??

Low Stress Training. you can tie down a plant, or bend a plant over to make it seem shorter. this exposes sides to light and can produce more bud sights.

You Could top it anddd LST it,I was thinking what I should Do aswell Ive always LST'ed but now that I think of It I do both top and bending works great!

super crop it! damage the tallest limbs, so the shorter ones catch up. then, u have a level canopy of nice tops. of course, like the other comments, there are many ways.......all work.
