Heya,

Im growing out right now an indica and am not sure when to top her.

Obvs a n00b xD

Right now the plants at 5 nodes and approx 5 inches tall (sorry, no pic access atm). That seems short to me but anyone with some experience chime in please and school me so my Afghan women will thrive!

Thanks community!

There are a couple factors to consider. Topping early will give you plants that are shorter and bushier. Could be important if you are in a tent or if space is critical. Also, plants topped real early will often become top heavy and need to be braced up. Keep an eye on that, eh? I generally top when the plants are 2/3 through veg cycle.

Good luck, BigSteve.

I wonder if fimming would be a better option as it really doesn't cause the plant to loose height and is less stressful?

Thanks for the input all. yeah fim'ing is another option. My main goal is yield as space is pretty good (just a few plants in a 4x4) but was advised to top instead of fim. I may top one and fim another, just to see the difference on the same pheno.

oh how about different methods of topping? saw some guy kind of pop/snap the tiny round growth at tip of plant in middle of all leaves. If that is topping seems like less stressful way instead of cutting the whole area away?

at the very top of the plant where there is the new sets of leaves, look where they connect to the stem, CLEAN cut the very base of the stem but make sure not to damage the little growths in between the lower sets.

you’re talking about FIM which means Fuck I Missed, which is a method some prefer but I prefer topping because it seems more controlled and goes well with my LST Lollipopping combo

I like to top them at the 4th or 5th node. I top all my plants 3 times and start LST after the second topping. Gives me short stout plants with tons of tops by flower. I like starting early because all my topping is done well before flower and that gives me lots of time to shape my girls using LST.

Nice. yeah I topped most and tried to FIM a few. I hear wait 4 nodes and top for second time - wondering if you fim'd on second "cut" top instead or vice versa? or does it matter?

Been told that 2nd top is about 4 nodes after the 1st top...or maybe height is a better indicator esp if its a short indica and/or stunted...

Cheers!

I usually wait a few weeks between toppings. I've topped the second time at 3rd node with no issues at all. Biggest factor is space and time. Indoors I stay on top of things and try to keep things rolling. My green houses are in vegg for several months so I'm not pressed for time. I top twice indoor and 3 to 4 times in the green houses. I also LST in both scenarios.
