Where are the trichomes?

Hi guys, friend of a friend is growing some bud and needs help. His first grow but has done his research. 60/40 coir/perlite mix, FoxFarm organic ferts and supplements, 600w MH/HPS, carbon filter, inline fan, air-cooled reflector, blah blah.

The strains are Special Queen (given free with seed order), and Arjan's Ultra Haze #2 from Greenhouse seeds.

They all showed the signs of flowering at about the same time, however the bud production began much sooner with the Special Queen. He had to use BushMaster on the Arjans because, being a haze strain, they grew very tall very fast. He assumes the BushMaster is what caused the delay in bud production for the Arjans.

He's on week 6 of flowering. The Special Queen is covered very well in trichomes, both on the leaves and the buds. The Arjans have MUCH bigger buds, however there is no sight of trichomes. Special Queens are nearing harvest, as the hairs have began to change colors, and the trichomes are being checked daily (none amber yet). I have attached pictures from both plants. The Special Queen pictures are the ones that sparkle in the light, while the Arjans are the ones that have no trichomes.

I'm worried because the Arjans are reputed to have a 22-23% THC level, while on the SQ it is around 15-16% IIRC, so I don't understand why the trichome development is much better on the SQ. Also, the Special Queen is supposed to be a bigger producer than the Arjans, yet the Arjans have considerably bigger buds. Should he be worried?

Arjan's Ultra Haze #2, bud bigger than his hand!

Special Queen, much smaller buds, but also much tastier-looking!

Understand that no one strain is the same and will grow differently. This will also affect bud production and it isn't the slightest fair to compare 2 different strains the way you appear to be.

They look very healthy and I wouldn't stress too much. You can try using different ferts such as 'UREA' to help boost the bud growth with a hit of nitrogen, but ultimately this particular strain may just have less bud production... given you haven't grown this before

you called it a 'he'....that's pretty much grower repellent around these here parts...
a faux pas if you will....
i'm convinced they think if they answer something bad happens to their grow

i wish i could help...but i'm a newb

i'd let it grow personally...different strains take their own courses

seen the arjans grown a few times, it isn't a great resin producer, it will also give a very different high to the special queen. it is a smoke for the cannaseur alright, don't worry about trichomes, it will be fine.

I'm not comparing them as an apples-to-apples comparison, I'm comparing them as a "#1 is supposed to have higher production and lower THC than #2, but I'm seeing the exact opposite."

thc isn't just the resin you see in the buds and leaves, it is within the plant and believe me, you will be happy with the arjans come harvest time, just keep it healthy!
