Where do I top my plant?

I'd like to top my plant before I put it into flour and everything I've read says to top it at the third node, but they don't specify whether it's the third node from the top or the third node from the bottom. I'm pretty sure I know the answer (well, they don't call it "bottoming") but I just wanted to check with you guys.

It's from the bottom. Jeezus that's quite a tall pole you got goin there now ain't it? WTF is that ? Looks like a "Kentucky Wonder" (that's a pole bean, lol)
anyhow, all seriousness aside, it;s really just this simple..............each one of those branches has the potential to create a nice fat cola on the end of it.
If you want four colas, leave four "goood" branches. I strongly suggest you do just that. That plant is quite lanky to say the least. I have to guess that you have your light too far from the top or it's a weak light or something but you will need to correct that. Good luck

So, to 'top' a plant, you simply split the entire stalk with like a razor blade and it will repair itself, making two colas and, ultimately, more bud?

get a close up pic of the nodes/top for me to look at,cause she looks like it from here.
I agree Newbie, she's flowering and has been for a couple of weeks.
Your question should have been "WHEN DO I TOP "
Answer, about 4-6 weeks ago.

Well, can I borrow your time machine? All I have is a pair of scissors. Jeez, now I know why they call this "Newbie Central".

The plant does not have altering nodes, I thought that was a sure sign that the plant was mature enough for flowering.. Am i just confused?

And when you say "Split" it. Are you saying cut it down the middle leaving the entire stem intact? Or Chopping the entire Main stem; Leaving you with one in the pot and one in ur hands for cloning

Sorry for the newb ass question; I want to get it right

If your sure its not already in flower, I would get some rooting power, cut her in three pieces. Not split I but cut --. Dip the pieces in rooting powder and plant. After they recover, and start to show growth switch the lights to 12/12 and three plants will start to flower. Buy a better light.

I'm not sure that plant is flowering. Just looks like the secondary growth is stunted because she is reaching for the light. Never, ever, ever "split" a stem down the middle ;) Topping is usually performed early on in the plants life when there are only 2-5 sets of true leaves (multiple fingers) .. easiest way to do this is pinch off the young growth just above an internode. Of course it is done to larger plants as well in order force more lower growth..

Yeah it looks like your plant needs more light, the lower branches aren't really growing big at all the only real buddage is happening at the top
