I installed a new 1000w, and it shot my temps way up to the mid 80s, but only while in the direct light. The actual air temp is in the mid 70s. If I cover the thermometer it registers 70s, uncovered it is in the 80s. It got me thinking, just where does everyone check their temps?

i have an electric thermometer with a probe on a long wire. i drape the wire over a screw that sticks out of my hood so that the probe tip dangles over the canopy. it hovers about an inch above the actual canopy. i measure it here because it's the hottest part of the grow area that the plants actually touch.

i used to veg in this closet and i had a huge bushy flat canopy and i would just toss the probe over the canopy.
