A simple question yet one with so much meaning...
I wonder if i'm the only one who sees things going downhill... we have a problem people... the middle-east threatens to explode into another world war at any time..terroist attacks are happening all over the world... people are to absorbed in their selves to see past their own lives...money and greed are beginning to become the rulers of the world...and the people are ignorant of most of the things going on in the world... how long before we get back on track and start pursuing knowledge again... we have some of the greatest civilizations of all time around the world, but these same civilizations i think are at the point of imploding... so I ask am i completely off base or is there some truth in this??? Do things need to change to get better or will they get better by following the path the world is on now??? And if things do need to change is it within the realm of possibility that people can change???

Good questions. I don't think any of us have those answers. I think they come under We hope. We hope people will start to pull their heads out and start cleaning up the world mess, but the greed factor controls most of the rulers and business leaders, so the only way you can hope for change from them is to drag them kicking and screaming into reality, reality that the rest of humanity needs help, and they are the ones that can make these changes happen. Untill you can extricate them from their palaces and pull them out of their Rolls Royces, and get them to see the plight of the everyman, nothing will change! Good luck!

Until the everyman stands up and stops believing the lies of those that would rule us then things will not change... the people need to become informed and make a move to correct the path we've been put on by the ruling class... aka the government and the rich...

I think everything is going the same way it has been going since we came down out of the trees. Things just seem to be worse because we have access to a lot more information than people used to, and we have it a lot quicker. All the bullshit that you see going on has always gone on; it just happened outside of your immediate awareness. Things actually might even be a little BETTER than they used to be. Especially in terms of sheer numbers, the quality of life is certainly improving, as are life spans in general.

One of the things that you can do to get a better perspective on life is to quit watching television. That sick device is designed to keep you feeling anxious, inadequate, and in a constant state of consumption.

Anyway, my life is fucking fantastic.

Nah. I think my fantastic life would start to suck if I started caring about shit like Rolls Royces and "humanity." I'll stick with driving my beat up pick up, helping my neighbors, and making meaninful changes in MY OWN life. As for the "burden", I'll wait for a loser with high standards to pick it up and carry it.

i don't think that it has to do with right wing or left wing nor do i think things are better... our access to what we have now makes people more succeptible to the evils of the world... the tv for instance... it is common or at least from what i've seen where parents let the tv raise their kids... and you can see if you just pay attention where that is getting us... each new generation gets worse... people are more crazy now and have access to weapons that can destroy the world... at least back in ancient times a crazy ruler of a rich country couldn't catapult the world to death... we have so many maniacs and crazies running around its not funny and all society does is give those people excuses and turns them into victims instead of calling them what they truly are... where we have a gov. that taxes us and the majority of the people can't even understand where the money is going to... and where hollywood and capital hill run most peoples lives... we need to stop arguing republican democrat because in the end both parties are filled with liars and cheats "for the most part" that could give a damn about the average joe... i'm happy with my life but the condition of civilization worries me...

I've looked all over, and I can't seem to find a box for you to put me in.

BTW, has it actually gotten to the point that optimism is "right wing"?

BTW, has it actually gotten to the point that optimism is "right wing"? Pretty much as they are the ones reaping the harvest of Bushs' policies. Bush has done everything possible to foil the left and take shit away from the poor while giving everything to the elites, if that is not right wing bullshit, I'll eat my hat!

Other than the events of 9-11, anyone know of any other attacks on US soil that were conclusively performed by islamic fundamentalists/extremists? I know there's been some heinous crap in Europe, but Al-Queda seems to focus on the US in their messages.

It just seems that if they possess so much hate and were so focused on killing the infidels, they'd man-up and knock on our door with the fury they try to emulate in their videos and audios....where is the bravery or pride in parking the car outside a populated cafe and killing a group of people, any one of which would beat your ass under different circumstances.

I mean, there's a "brave" way out and a pussy way out....all I seem to see depicted is the manifestation of pusseism in the minds of brainwashed extremists.

I say - cabin in the woods time - man.

"Six words: drop out, turn on, then come back and tune it in... and then drop out again, and turn on, and tune it back in... it's a rhythm... most of us think God made this universe in nature-subject object-predicate sentences... turn on, tune in, drop out... period, end of paragraph. Turn the page... it's all a rhythm... it's all a beat. You turn on, you find it inside, and then you have to come back (since you can't stay high all the time) and you have to build a better model. But don't get caught - don't get hooked - don't get attracted by the thing you're building, cause... you gotta drop out again. It's a cycle. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Keep it going, keep it going... the nervous system works that way... gotta keep it flowing, keep it flowing..."

Timeless................

Those in power are high all the time and are unable to feel the rhythm. Every great society has folded and unfortunately, history does repeat itself. Definetly not today, seemingly not tomorrow, but it will happen.

Sure ... there was the first attack on the World Trade Center ... killing several people. Then, there was the attack at the Airport in Los Angeles. Then there was the "Shoe Bomber" who was caught trying to board an airplane. Then, there was the Alaskan Airlines plane that was suspected of being brought down off of the Southern Californa coast a few years age.

Come on Vi, That tragedy was proven to be a defective jack screw that operated the rear tail structure. Remember when they shut down all flights by that type airpland and checked them out. They found others just like that that hadn't gone bad yet and made all the airlines with that type of plane replace the Jackscrews. Nice try!

Are we talking about the same plane, Med? The one I'm talking about was prior to 9-11 and went down right off the coast of San Diego. There were eye witnesses who saw a ground-to-air missle hit it. The government denied it though. I wonder if they would deny it now?

Same plane, Remember flight 800 out of JFK, they thought they saw a missle there also, proved to be a spark in the center fuel tank. I remember because I had thought of taking an alaska airways flight to alaska to see my brother and it made me decide to forget it. The Jackscrew that operates the horizontal stabilizer was stripped, allowing the plane to go out of control.

Alaska Airlines jet crashes off California coast; 88 aboard By JEFF WILSON

An Alaska Airlines jet with 88 people aboard plummeted into the Pacific Ocean on Monday after its pilot reported mechanical problems and was diverted to Los Angeles for an emergency landing. Several bodies were recovered from the chilly water, but there was no sign of survivors hours after the crash.
Flight 261, heading from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to San Francisco and later to Seattle, went down at 4:36 p.m. PST, the airline said.
A large field of debris rolled in big swells about eight miles offshore as aircraft and small boats converged on the site just before sunset. Hours later, the high-power lights of commercial squid boats illuminated the darkness as a cutter and small boats continued the search.
Several bodies were found, Coast Guard Lt. Chuck Diorio said, but he could not give a specific number.
"Every resource is out there to find people," said Coast Guard Capt. George Wright. "We're actively searching for survivors. ... In 58-degree water temperature, people can survive. We're not going to quit until we're positive there's absolutely no chance."
Alaska Airlines spokesman Jack Evans said the plane was carrying 83 passengers and five crew members.
The plane was an MD-83, part of the MD-80 series aircraft built by McDonnell Douglas, now part of Boeing, said John Thom, a spokesman for Boeing's Douglas aircraft unit. The plane that crashed had been delivered to Alaska Airlines in 1992, Thom said.
The airline said the pilot reported having problems with the "stabilizer trim" and asked to be diverted shortly before the plane crashed. "Radar indicates it fell from 17,000 feet and then was lost from radar," San Francisco airport spokesman Ron Wilson told KRON-TV.
On the MD-80 series airplanes, the horizontal stabilizer looks like a small wing mounted on top of the tail. The stabilizer, which includes panels that pitch the nose up and down, is brought into balance, or "trimmed," from the cockpit.
If a plane lost its horizontal stabilizer, it would have no means to keep the nose pointed at the proper angle up or down, and the plane would begin an uncontrollable dive.

Yes, I DO remember it now. I also had a flight on Alaska just after that plane came down. I decided to go anyway, figuring what the odds were of another Alaska plane going down. Figured the odds were WAY in my favor. Here's something interesting though ... As I came through the check in point, there were plain clothed people checking all the carry-on luggage. I travel light and only carry a small tote bag. They went completely through it. I asked the guy if they had increased security because of the downed plane and he said yes. Searching carry-on baggage was just about unheard of at that point in time.

I guess they were worried that someone might have a wrench to loosen the jackscrew~LOL~.
