It came from Alaska- my boss had worked on the Alaska pipeline and had connections for Alaskan ivory
we had midnight blue mastodon ivory- it was spectacular

I'd grind down the outside layer (what I call the bark) into the white core ivory leaving a little of the blue bark in the cracks, then polish it until it didn't look real

I bet it didn’t. I’ve seen some amazing effects in natural materials. I doubt if I could do it; I don’t have the eye.

The classification of the Jackalope among elephantines is a bit fraught. Bring very ripe tomatoes to the public debates. It improves or at least flavors them.

My process doesn't require great eyesight
I take a piece to the polishing wheel after it's been pre-polished with worn 600 grit
My polishing wheel is an 8" muslin buff with two rows of stitching taken out to soften the face, which lessens the chance of burning it
I run it at 3500rpm
my polishing compound is a secret
