Where to air?

So I currently have an intake fan with basic filter for dust on the top of my tent. The exhaust is just a PVC pipe to help ensure the passthrough doesn't close up, but it just exhausts straight out. I want and need to add a carbon filter. Can I leave the air intake as it is and just put the filter attached to the PVC, inside the tent and the air will exhaust through that? Do I have to have the fan attached to the filter itself or attached with flex tubing? I don't want to add more fan if it isn't needed and if I add the filter at the intake near the ceiling, the exhausted air will still stink.

You need the fan to pull air out of the tent through the filter. You can put the filter in the tent if you want.
Do I have to hook the fan to the filter or can my positive pressure setup push enough at the exhaust port to just put the filter there and leave the fan at the ceiling?

Because the tent isn't sealed a lot of the smell is going to leak out through the ports and zippers instead of passing through the filter. You need a fan on the filter and then use negative pressure inside the tent to ensure nothing unwanted is leaking out.
