Where to cut?

one of the stalks on one plant is ready to be cut. if i cut it will it kill the rest of the plant? also if i do cut it where on the stalk do i cut??

stalk is usally were it comes out of the ground. do you mean branch?

well ive had mixed results, as a test i tried using a male plant very close to the top where it was topped, and it actually survived like a clone, with all its leaves and everything, but i accidentally cut down a female thinking it was a male, and tried to reroot it, no luck, it never even had a chance
