Go to your local home improvement center or hydroponics store. Read up what you need in the faq's first and then your all set.

home depot had some kick ass sales on CFLS around here a while ago, not sure about other places. but yea I got like 4- 23watt daytime spectrum ones for like 2 bucks. and they have all the extension cords, socket adapters, Y adapters, and everything else. thats how I got mine started, pretty basic but worked until I was able to get an HPS

To get started all you'll need is a board to mount your light on.4 bulbs,4 porcelin light holders.and about 12 ft of that cheap cord.that has three plugs on the end.cut the female end off.strip wire follow the side that has a big plug.that's your possitive.mark it with tape.mount your light holders.easier if you cut holes in center but a 2x2 will work.with tie ties.each light mount has a gold and silver screw keep it all gold on possitive.you have a light set up.good luck!

home depot has a 68W 2700k CFL for $14.97 with an E26 screw in base it works in any normal screw in socket.
they usually keep them near the HPS bulbs.
i use these, they are beast. equivalent to 300 watts!!

go to walmart and buy everything you can there, it's cheaper than HD, even when HD has sales...

just get the Y-sockets at HD, not lowes, HD's has a little screw in the middle that holds it together.... it's a little sturdier, for the same price..... the lowe's ones break easily and i had one start sparking up on me once... i risked a major fire at my place and getting electrocuted.... both not good....

my light holders were $1.50 each at lowes

the power strip thing is a great idea, I'm currently using it on clones, and held six cfls while I was flowering with them for my first plant
