Which 1200 watts combo should I go with?

I have a 10'x10' space and would like to set up 1200 watts HPS. Should I go with 3x400watts or 2x600watts? Pros and cons for either of this set up?

I'm a newbie so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

2x600 watts, every time. more lumens, less bulbs to mess with. but i with that space i would put more light

Ok thanks. I can only have 6 plants (per my state)so I plan to flower them in 10 x10 tent. I know its way too big but I got a deal on it so I couldn't say no. I will be using 8 inch Vortex fan with carbon filter and 6 inch can fan as an active intake. So I am going to start out with 600x2.

Here is someone with 6 plants in 10x10...impressive.

3 400 watts and use cmh philips allstart330.. mag ballasts. hps suck. some hps have high par (µmole/s) but very low cri (color rendering index) and poor spectrum. just don't last because they are made with an aluminum arc, cmh have the highest cri, higher par and last 2-3 times longer because they are made with a ceramic arc. 2 philips allstart 330's will match a 1000w hps in yield with better coverage and produce better quality. hps degrade far more than cmh.

lumens and watts determines nothing has nothing to do with plant growth. you want high cri , high par and even spectral distribution. the higher the cri trhe more even the spectral distribution. cmh cri is 93 with 1360 µmole/s . 600 watt ushio is 1100 µmole/s with a cri of 35. the sun is 2000 µmole/s at midday.

cmh are also open reflector rated and have a quartz crystal coating for protection. so no need for glass which cuts 15% of spectral output anyway. they run cooler than a 250 watt hps. no need to vent the lights

3 400's will cover 10x4 so better off with 6. 2 1000's will not cover a 10x10 nor will 3 600's

Ok so I am new to this but I thought you need HPS for flowering? I think they have these bulbs cmh philips allstart 400 at Lowe's. I have Galaxy 1000w HPS/MH multi-watt dimmable ballast type. Would it works with cmh philips allstart 400? Thanks

They make an 860w CMH that runs of a 1000w. CMH only run on magnetic ballast. They run 50-60Hz

check advanced tech lighting. Or on amazon bulb America for phililps allstart 330 or allstart 860.

needs an mh for veg and hps for flower is bullshit perpetrated by light companies. The sun doesn't change through out the year. In late summer and fall. Right when sun has set it releases 730nm wavelength for a few min. CMH is a white light. Like being outside. I used same 330's and loved it. They were stolen last summer. now I use induction and led. I ran 1000w digilux and quantum before CMH.

Ok thanks for this great advice. So I ended up with

(1) Phillips allstart 330,
(1) Philips MasterColor Ceramic Metal Halide HPS-Retro White 400 watts
(1) Hps 400 watts (forgot the brand)

I'm using this in my 4x8 Jardin tent instead of 10x10. I am putting 10 plants in for flowering (my first) this weekend. They are pretty big since I vegged them for over 2 months. I will start the journal this weekend.

The reason I decided to use Hps too is because I bought it a while back and really want to compare the different between CMH and HPS for myself. Without getting to technical...anyone know the different between Phillips CMH allstart 330 and Philips MasterColor CMH HPS-Retro White 400 watts
