Which HDTV to buy ???? ...Decissions .... !!!! - STELTHY :leaf:

I have been in the electronics market for years and the best picture you can get IMO is a Sony LCD on a high definition Directv receiver. I have seen them all. I have Dishnetwork for the value, but I know Directv is better. Samsung and Sharp Aquos are tied for a close 2nd.

I really did like the Samsung I mentioned above, but it was the crosstalk (image ghosting) that was the thing that let it down...also I wanted to know: There are passive and active 3-D glasses.. and I am aware that active glasses flicker if you look away from the screen whilst wearing them!! Has any one suffered headaches/epileptic fits etc etc ??? I want the most enjoyable viewing pleasure and even if the Active Glasses may allow you to watch the 3-D stuff in full 1080p.... I wonder if the 'flicker' causes any long-term problems with migraines etc... in which case the 'Passive Glasses' (720p) may be a better way to go since the lenses dont flicker but the on screen 3-D image is less detailed...

There are so many things to take into consideration when buying a new-age HD-TV its defo a toss up between LED and Plasma, and I'am aware of the Silver/Clear bezels & shiny glass screens that cause/increase glare etc.. The Plasma's shiny screen is less of a problem due to the viewing room being fairly dim.. the thing I was wondering is the LED TV's all seem to have ultra bright led/contrast..and in all the shops/showroom's they are set to max...but if you were to turn down the brightness..does the image appear 'dull' and not 'glossy & rich' or do the LED TV's still look just as great with a lower contrast output??

Thanks for the replies so far... Has anyone had/got a 3-D Smart HD-TV made by 'Lowe'? - (unsure of spelling)... they seem to carry a really high price tag... just wondered how good they really are ?? I will be going to a few more specialist shops later in the week.. and will try and get some more info regarding the best of the best sets..

i just went through this and ended up buying a samsung 46 LCD. i was strongly considering plasma as i watch alot of sports but i was worried about glare and everyone i talked to recommended LCD/LED over plasma regarding that. no issues so far with the LCD granted it's only been a week. i recommend checking them all out at the store, give you an idea of what you want. i didnt break the bank with my purchase at $699 but if your willing to spend more id go LED.

I am in the same boat, trying to buy a 55-60 inch tv. So I've done some research on AVS Forums, then headed out to the store.

Saw mostly all the display models, then I saw the Samsung UN60D7000. Wow. Almost no frame, LED last longer than plasma and lcd. Emits less heat, less energy spent.

You had to have seen this model right? Every other TV I looked at after, didn't have anything really new about it. This one has the 3D, with newer, lighter glasses.

Also it converts any 2d into 3d, but remember (3D) is not the main reason to buy it. I currently have a Sony and Sammy Plasma and they do the job, I just wanted to upgrade to something new that looks fresh or has the wow factor.

My friend that was with me despised the look of this TV, didn't understand why, but it is really down to your opinion.

Remember one thing, The TVs at the store are not calibrated at all, and usually use a coax crap cable. They are on the brightest setting possible usually.

Each company has their own contrast ratio measurements, so don't compare. Refresh Rate is vital for video game players/Sports games viewers, Higher the better, but for plasma/led/lcd they are individual meanings so don't compare them.

They do make a higher end model, the UN60D8000, but out of the range you spoke of and same here for me.

I have 55 inch sony led burns 125 watts compared to the Panasonic 50 plasma that burned 700 watts big difference......as for picture you can't go wrong with a Sony. The Panasonic was awesome for pic quality too but I couldn't justify using so much energy for a tv....plasma tv black levels are the best In my opinion the absolute best picture comes from plasma tvs not LCD

you'll want to look at the hz rate. Higher that rate the more it can capture movement. better for watching sports and playing games.

I heard that the Hz rating is a bit confusing... I mean the signal received by the T.V's are either 50Hz or 60Hz depending on where in the world you are located... but when you see 400Hz and 800Hz etc... its in-fact a processor built into the HD-TV that then speeds up the frames etc to look smoother the bigger the TV gets... However all Plasma's I've seen so far are rated at 600Hz and 600Hz only, yet LED Back & Side-lit HD-TV's exceed the Hz rating's and offer 800Hz and now 1000Hz ... I can't help but wonder if there is any noticible difference to the human eye between the Plasma's 600Hz and the LED's 800Hz & 1000Hz sets ?? If so how so ???

I am also wondering what technical specs I'd be looking out for for flawless 1080P 3-D without any signs of cross-talk (ghosting).. and any info on HD-TV's that can do 1080P in 3-D without the uses of 3-D Glasses and if thats even possible yet ??

I have a whole load of other questions revolving around my HD-TV dilemma, but as long as I tick them off as I go I should eventually get all the answers I need to make the best desission on which HD-TV to go for!

I work in the electronics dept. at Walmart. I can tell you from experience that Vizio is one of the best brands out there right now. For the 32" I would go with the LED LCD. It is ultra thin, light, and has an amazingly bright picture. Also for an HD 3D we have a 65" Vizio that will blow your mind. I would deff look into the Vizio line. They are American made also.

Do the LED/LCD screens still look just as nice when the contrast is turned down? In the stores they only seem to show demo movies such as 'Ice-Age' etc... which is kinda computerised cartoons that do look exceptional and really class! But I wonder how they perform on more realistic real-life pictures in Blue-Ray ?? Do the pics of peoples faces show true believable colours or are they some-what to colourful ??

I am not bothered how many watts the TV uses.. I just want the best of the best as far as view-ability goes! Does anyone know if any plasma's have screens that don't produce mad glare and have a treated glass screen to reduce the glare factor ?? So far the Panasonic 55" (Plasma) offers the best 3-D but the set is £2200.00 approx..

lol I am not from the US and so have not heard of 'VISIO' before ... the Escort Vs Beemer comment made me laugh though I drive an R-33 so am not bothered (smiles) but I see what your saying...I cant imagine an ASDA/WALMART TV being better than the High end sets I've looked at so far! All of them. Do yourself a favor and just go look at one of these before you commit. If you don't and see one at your friends house the week after you buy something else, you will kick yourself. They are worth the few extra $$$.

Good idea. I have seen a lot of these cheap visio's and not only do they not compare in quality, you can't code a Dish or Directv remote to work with them because they used some obscure infared codes.

Personally, I chose a Panasonic plasma over the LCDs that were out at the time, better contrast and cheaper. I really wanted a Pioneer Elite and almost got one of their last models on clearance but that was a few years ago and they are not made anymore. The LCDs are catching up to the superior picture quality of plasma. They may have even surpassed it by now, however, I haven't looked close enough to know. My best recommendation is to read AVS forums because that's where a lot of your experts will be and after you purchase one, they will have the details on how to set it up for the best picture, which often requires going into the hidden service menus.
