Which is better when changing light schedules, a long "day" or a long "night"?

I've decided that when I start 12/12 I also want to switch it so that the lights are on at night and off during the day, since my grow box is in the attic, so no need to exacerbate the likely heat problems I'll be encountering this summer. However, right now I'm on an 18/6 schedule where lights are out from 1am to 7am, which will fall within my "day" once I change the schedule.

Would it be better to start 12/12 with an extra-long "day" (like 30 hours), or an extra long "night" (like 18 hours)? Or does it really matter at all?

long night. i believe the plant reacts to the amount of light not dark so if the plant sleeps longer its ok if the plant is awake longer it can trigger hermi.

I'm doing mine in the attic too and my friend brought up a good point, since I will be harvesting around June-ish he told me I should flower at night considering it gets to 85-95 degrees at least every day starting in May, you're right the lights being on during the day would be exacerbating the problem. But then again Marijuana is a very resilient plant so maybe not.

Thanks for quick answers -- I'll go for the long night!

Yeah, I think it would be impossible to do in summer if you don't have a really well-insulated box with a cold-air intake (mine is tapped directly into an a/c duct). I'm still working on the insulation aspect, but when I turn on my a/c, the box drops to room temperature in like 5 minutes, so I might just have to run my a/c in "fan on" mode instead of "fan auto" mode during the summer, at least during the day. But we shall see! Check out the journal in my sig if you wanna see my setup.
