which light setup to use?

i have 1x 150 watt hps

or

8x 26 watt cfl bulbs (100 watt equiv. each)

the 8x cfl hood setup seems to be brighter but doesnt have the extreme orange glow that the 150 watt has.

i beleive that what i have to look for is the most lumens correct??

the light will be in my 2x2x4 cab lined with mylar.

use all of them vent the shit out of it..just my two cents..i love light..i dont think you can have to much haha

yes i agree use all of the lights or use half the cfls in a veg room and the other half in the flower room with the hps.

I use 1 x 150 HPS and 2 x 21 watts CFL's
Works great, I got about 90 grams of PREMIUM bud at last harvest (2 plants; NYC Diesel and Casey Jones)

i dont have the room for all of them. its kindof a stealth cab 2x2x4, i think i may invest in 4 of the single tube t5's abd have one on every corner.

the cfl's only look brighter to you...not the plant, an hps only has roughly 30% of its light visable to humans but the plant can see the rest, i would hang the hps on top then use the cfl's for side light so they dont block light from the hps

Lumens are for humans(ahaha). HPS produce more lumens than CFLs per watt. CFLs emit more photosynthetically active radiation per lumen than HPS. However, watt for watt, HPS emits much more PAR per watt(specifically for flowering) than pretty much anything else you can buy.



Then again, the sun is free.

my vote is to use the cfl for veging room and 150 for a flowering room.

Or get a 216W 4 bulb HO T5 fixture that puts out 20k lumens(about $250) for veg. 93 lumens per watt. Better than most MH, especially considering the bulbs last far longer than MH bulbs and don't decay anywhere near as quickly in lumen output.
