Which one now? LED or CMH

I priced out a 500w COB setup at around $700 for materials.

At that price, wouldn't you want to learn?

The guys suggesting HPS lighting don't do their PAR spectrum homework, as HPS is terrible at giving plants the wavelengths they actually want- they get the job done with brute force, not efficiency.

I built my HVAC plant around shedding heat from HPS thouies by the dozen, but they still don't produce like I think they should.

I run vertical and I have a bunch of thousand watt convertible magnetic ballasts- so when I heard about the Philips CDM 860W lamps (vertical mount, magnetic ballast only), I did a happy dance! I bought some and they'll be here this week.

the guys over in the LED section know there stuff.... most have grown with HPS and moved to LED due to preferring their performance

when they start taking notice of the Philips you know that light has A LOT of potential...I think its not about being an HPS /LED/ PLASMA etc guy... its about using whats best at the moment..

HPS is just point and shoot and if money is your concern then they are cheap and OK... LEDs can grow the same weed for less watts despite what HPS boffins argue..

in the end grow with what you want but there is no excuse for blind naivety

I use LEDS all day long and I've found them to be brilliant. Everyone always slags them off. Opinions are like arseholes everyone has one!
You just have to go with what you like, I have a 180 ufo and they are only 1watt diodes and I have had fantastic results of it. They do work.
I've just brought a 350 watt lumigrow that's came today. Can't wait to use it :hump:
Brought if from the good old USA on Saturday and it landed on my doorstep in the UK today, service second to none, good old Uncle Sam!

Go with what you want but LEDs do work, it's the poorly made ones that give them a bad name. Plants absorbs more useable light from a LED than they do from a HPS.
Everyone goes on about lumens they don't mean shit.

Have a nice day the baby Jesus loves you all :bigjoint:

Ok so been consulting for couple weeks on my choice for my 4x4

option 1 is 2x A51 XGS190 at the cost of 950 bucks and 380w
although I was recommended to go with 6x rw75 at the cost of 1500 bucks and 450w
option 2 im considering 2x Philips 315 CMH Agro at the cost of 430 bucks and 630w <Already pushing my limit on the wattage

So..if anyone wants to drop some wisdom ashes in the ashtray..advice would be nice
Ive never used anything but leds btw..been using this apollo8 for 2+ years now in a 4x2 and heat isnt an issue which is a big concern for me in my next step
Better than your led option

If you want opnions on LEDs go to the LED section/.

most will say stay away from he ION8

most guys have been through buying shit and will only recommend what they know works...

its doesnt mean that ION8 wont... but most wont recommend it

The link is in my signature at the bottom of this post
Im on my phone so i dont see signatures lol sorry i think someone else linked it. Are you going to do a run using the spyder as a stand alone? You seem to have changed your lighting a bunch in the grow that i saw im interested on how it performs on its own.

I didn't get the SPYDR until ~ 2 weeks into flower

Yes, next grow will be 100% SPYDR

ok fux this...I have 1200 tops to invest on this light whatever it will be..I COULD afford 2 a51 XGS190 but heard this might not be enough....
the spydr600 sounds nice and looks like it will get the job done..
based on the site...2 CLW solarflares seems to be nice
the last option which is best seems to be to have one built..but who do i goto for that? im sure im not gonna assemble one myself..
just as long as its good as or greater than the a51's :)

would that be a good idea? 2 birds one stone

Yes. One of the many things, that IMO, separates the SPYDR from the others... the ability to choose your own spectrums

The ability to push the bars together for veg, then spread them as the plants grow is huge (and also tilt individual bars)

as well as the entire 3 x 3 footprint has the same intensity color spectrums

and then it's passively cooled, although running a house fan across the back side makes it more efficient

rob333 not true. See greengenes707 side-by-side Apache Tech v 1000w hps. Several YT videos

why? LOL sorry I own a spyder, they kick ass.
Lol understood...I was just on the idea that the spectrum was one that you choose so I said to myself...just go witha proven spectrum? If im making sense lol..im not sure if the spectrum the spydr has standard would be better/worst than my other option
Im really leaning toward the spydr for the 4x4 coverage...
And also are they 5w or 3w leds on the spydr??
